Cheviot Challenge

Post by chrisfozz »

Hi,

With all this talk about flying XC from the Cheviots I thought I’d produce a facility for recording flights, but only those starting from a site in the Cheviots. This is what I’ve come up with so far;-

http://fozz.dyndns-ip.com/mytrack/Cheviot/upload.php

The first page has a facility for uploading tracklogs and a map highlighting the area from which flights can start, although they obviously don’t have to end in this area. The allowed area is basically circle, 20km radius, centred on Linhope Spout and if I’ve got this right it should include all the sites we currently use in the Cheviots. The system is programmed to disallow flights which start outside the circle; be warned there will be consequences should you try to upload an illegal flight.

There is a page listing the top flights in order of distance, with some other details. Although there is not much on it at present, clicking on the pilot name lets you see the flight over an OS map and some flight details. There is also a “top 5 league” page too. If there is any interest, I was thinking of making a separate top5 league for just the current year which could form the basis for a club award.

It works best when viewed with Firefox rather than internet explorer and has not been tested extensively so probably still contains enough bugs to feed a large bear. If it gets used I’ll do my best to sort these out.

You will need to login to upload flights but if you’ve registered a username on my site in the past you won’t have to do this again. If you’ve got any tracklogs from flights done in the Cheviots please upload them so we can see who’s been out doing what and where from.

Also, if you want to give me any feedback or tell me about what’s not working there are contact details on the site or you can leave comments here.

Looks good Chris, could inspire some use of them there hills. The 'My Tracks' doesn't seem to work for me.
Is there a way to display the best flights from individual sites on the map? Or am I asking too much?
Great job!
See you out there!!!!!
