Optimise Track for Triangle

Finally for the first time this summer managed to be in the right place at the right time.

Only one problem...

Not sure how to get the XC League thingy to score the flight as a FAI Triangle as I think I might of fullfilled another goal that I've always dreamed of... getting a 15k on XFell!!!

Someone help please or at least put me out of my misery.

just stick it on the league will score it as an FAI as it has a higher score

hi tony download gps dump then open flight in gps dump then go to misc then click on optimise using igc buffer. this will give you your best option your triangle is over 16k so very nice.

well done if you need any help putting into the league as it is not straight forward if you want i can always do it for you if yo email the igc file

Gary if you tell me that it was a 15k Triangle then that's good enough for me mate. Wish you could have shared this flight with us.

Xfell is probably still offering the conditions for a great flight as I type...

Note to self... Sort out LED lights for Wing!

Tony I have altered the start finish time on your flight on the league so that it scores it as an fai triangle. It wasnt showing as an fai triangle as your olc score was 21km go check it out if you want the olc score back i'll reset the times for you.

Thanks again for the help.

Stuck the flight here as they have a show optimisation link that shows all the options. (Could we get that or something to let you choose?)

Will be sending the file to Gary ASAP as for the 0.065k difference in score I'd prefer it to show as a 15k Triangle.

And yipee looks like it was, as Gary said nearly 16k (15.71k).

Hope the weekend brings the same options in the Cheviots!

Though looks SW so maybe I'll have to commute with the rest of you.

when i ran it through gps dump it came up with 15.74 the our league shows it as a 15.7km FAI triangle now that i have ammended the start stop time.

Didn't know where to look for you next, got me all confused you did....

I reckon you need one of those Mode S transponder thingies so we know where the f**k you are - would weigh you down a bit too

well done Tony - Do not forget to add your track log to your declaration (CSC league) as the CSC league is linked through the national league it will get deleted if no tracklog is submitted after a period of time (not sure what this period is though).

I will reframe your question Tony - Why does is appear to be more difficult to post declarations on the national league?

The Cumbrian league is affiliated to the national league in an attempt to encourage the CSC membership who log their flights to also log them in our national league. By entering the national league - CSC pilots automatically get there flights added to the club league providing of course there flight started within the Cumbrian County boundary. No double entering of submitting of logs.
Why does the national league appear less user friendly in comparison say the NHPC league?
This is simply because the national league is used as a league table to find a national XC champion amongst other accolades and awards. It uses Igc files as they have the all important G security stamp ( which seems to be important to those that police the league). In creating a largely manual inputted declaration - I suppose it is authenticated ones declaration whereas with an automated system once could argue a posting error.
The national league has suffered in the past from dubious claims hence the much improved though still rather 'clunky' system.

In reality it is not that bad once you are up to speed with how to log your flights.

FYI You have 1 month's grace to submit your tracklog before it is removed.

Well what an awesome day at XFell!!!

Yet again she delivered in full after an unpromising start!

Great flying by all there & those on other sites that managed great open distances!

I think I managed another 15K Triangle, would have been bigger but touched down trying to get back from DunFell due to strong head wind / lack of altitude.

My GPS didn't stop so I've had to cut it at time / place of touch down.

COULD SOME BODY PLEASE CHECK THE FLIGHT LOOKS OK AND THAT I HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING WRONG TO IT as it's only the second time I've tried to do this!!!

What about my little triangle

shame that bloody miskum was there --- I worked my arse off to get back from the sheep pens and eventually got to the radar (or there abouts) but mine didnt qualify for FAI(whatever that is,) it was only a "free triangle" (whatever that is) can someone explain? I think if I'd pushed out further I might have scored more --- great day though

An FAI Triangle is one which satisfies the FAI's 28% Rule (shortest side must be greater than, or equal to, 28% of the distance flown). To fly a triangle you must round three turnpoints, and return to the original start point.

Your leg distances are longest leg 13.24 47.21% leg 2 8.05 28.7% leg 3 6.75 24.07% so your shotest leg was less than the 28% rule
