Whilst everyone else was being hoovered up on Blease, I spent Easter Sunday in North Wales, at a place called Shell Island, which happens to have a 2km stretch of sand dunes.....
I spent the day soaring the 30/40ft high dunes, never much more than 10 ft above the top of them, and often having to really scratch just to stay up.
It was immense fun!
The turns at the end of each beat had to be efficient, otherwise you were straight out of the lift band and back on the beach, and when you are only a few feet above the dunes your flying has to be very precise to avoid clipping the top of the dunes.
It is something I have always wanted to do, inspired in part by a picture that used to be on the old forum of Paul Myerscouse soaring the dunes at Druridge Bay, which I always thought looked really cool. As I recall he also had his hand out running it through the sand!
And it ties in with what has been said in other threads. You dont have to be flying massive xc's, or indeed getting massive height gains. Flying like that guarantees a huge grin at the end of the day!
Pics on the board......
A comparatively boring Easter Sunday!

A comparatively boring Easter Sunday!
It is sad to measure your life in terms of hours flown...... but even sadder not to.........
