i still am seeing a lot of ne to east but probably wrong but if not you could use carock for ne as very safe if the wind is light or the coast if the wind is strong though will need to be low tide if you are going to run it at the coast

Actually having just read the CSC site guide I don't think there would be too much of a problem for low airtimers. With it being a big site the wind will have to be monitored as would any site and there's no bottom landing fields as such but there is ample landing beside the old coach road. Read the site guide if you are interested. http://www.cumbriasoaringclub.co.uk/Sit ... p?site=CLH

You also need to be a member of the CSC too.

I've seen Gordie send his students off here in the right conditions and have the flight of their life.

Ronnie what hill would you suggest that would take the whole club should they decide to all turn out?

I agree with Gary, looks Northerly, but a bit strong tomorrow.....

Coincidentally it was this weekend last year that we held the comp on Cross Fell.
It is sad to measure your life in terms of hours flown...... but even sadder not to.........

Lighter and brighter in the west, may be late evening before model works for the floppies.
Rasp is saying very similar thermal activity for both sides, best between 12 and 2, very little by 4. Slight chance of overdevelopment in the lakes around 12, but then clearing again. Cloudbase higher in the west.
It will be interesting to see how the day pans out.
See you out there!!!!!

Surely...

Post by ron freeman »

Because the club is hell bent on running a NHPC club comp on Cumbrian sites ? surely they could waiver their club membership for one day...

We must be the only Club in the country where you have to be a member of two clubs to take part in your own Club comp

As for picking sites thats the job I passed onto you John

I don't think anyone would want people to join if they're a menber of another club. I always expect reciprocal rights when I go elsewhere. What's important is people following site rules so they should be able to approach locals for the info without fear of being landed with a membership fee.
There are 4 large fields at the bottom of clough that the farmer receives landing fee of £1. Find out which they are and use them. The other farmers will have your b*lls. Most of us land of the fell side along the coach road. There's a good area of upslope into compressed wind for hang gliders too. It's a breeze.

Totally agree

Post by ron freeman »

Hi Peter, totally agree with reciprocal rights as long as pilots read up on site rules and make contact.

Where would you run a comp tomorrow in the Lakes ?

Ron I don't think either John or Paul are hell bent on running the club PG comp on any hill inparticular.... But I know what they are hell bent on.....
That is giving the Club a great day having a FUN and SAFE comp. for ALL its members.

I really think a few constructive Posts would be appreciated .
Are you going to come and join in the fun ?

There is no rule saying you have to be a CSC member to fly CSC sites.though if many are planning to turn up it would be wise to let the sites officer know (Gordie North Lakes /Andy Plim for the south) Clough is likely to be a popular choice for many pilots tomorrow and therefore I would suggest trying out other sites eg Barton Fell but again this is best checked with our sites officers.

Personaly I think it poor practice for a neighbouring club to arrange their own club meet without prior arrangement with the other club. We are a fairly chilled club but dont take the p**s.

Kitt we are not taking the piss and we always contact Gordie before we set off for he Lakes. We did the last time we tried to run it and he was so helpful. If it's looks like the west tomorrow he will be the first person we ring be assured.

I've been looking through the CSC site guide all morning to make sure we get it right should we come across. I've already had 2 pms about the bottom landing at Clough from members offering to to contact the farmer.

As I said before the CSC is generally very laid back and I was very aware that Gordie was involved in your plans from an early stage last time. I also offered to assist. However looking at the thread this time I have not seen any notice to Gordie or other CSC members and therefore made my comment. If the courtesy ask has already been made then please accept my apologies.

Constructive post...

Post by ron freeman »

Club comps should be for all members who would like to take part, its no good picking a site where novices can't take part...

The NHPC have plenty of sites for all levels of pilots and you don't have to be a member of another club.

All these comments are contructive.

Corr blimey you lot have been busy, must not be flyable today aye

I've spent my morning looking for a new camper van on the net which has been about as constructive as this thread :P

Seriously though I was aware you guys might organise another comp we had the relevant discussion with reference to site usage last time. Thank's Kitt for reminding the invading Geordies of what's what.

As for northern sites there are many many options in the forecast directions. If is is N'ly I will be on the Back of Clough which is a school site where we pay a £5 per day per pilot to the farmer, you would be most welcome to use this if you chip in. As for the front of Clough well I would say all you guys would be here even if there was no comp and as most if not all have chose to join the CSC you would be as always most welcome.

So John it's o.k mate, put your soap box away and go dream about what tomorrows flying going to be like (bloody freezing by the sounds of it!)

Final decision will be made early tomorrow morning on which site we will be using. We'll send a text out via the NHPC text service and post here too. It's looking like it could be a really nice day so we need to get it right.

Hi all,

Thought i would post here as most people should see it before they go to Lakes/Model/Hill End etc tomorrow.

If you have any problems after your flight, need a retrieve, needs assistance etc, please do NOT rely on the text service. I could/should/hope to be flying myself tomorrow, but work in the morning means I will be in Scotland and not in the Lakes. :(

As such it could be hours before I land and I am in a position to forward messages on   however it is more likely i will be stuck on a hillside eating a Scotch pie freezing my nads off :x :x

Have a great SAFE day.

Regards,

Comp Green Light

Post by John Wallis »

After much deliberation we have both decided to go for Model Ridge as the forecast is to drop as the day goes on. Met check maximum on the fell tops is 19 and dropping as the day does on. Meet on the top 10.30 11.00

If if stays to strong we can always head for the coast for a fly.

Not a breath of wind here in Carlisle and totaly blue skies, surprisingly warm too....

Of course I am still in bed with the laptop as it is too cold to get up.
