Is it just me?

Post by brian day »

Is it just me?
Is it the weather?
Is it the flying? or is it the end of term blues?

But the sparkle is dwindling fast. Even the daring tales of adventure and biggest xc's of the year from the weekend didn't reignite the spark, they were only 13 odd km, from a site that last year was giving people the flights of 50 + km. (Not that I'm knocking the effort, well done lads)
Peering into the distance of long range forecasts gives moments of hope, only for them to be dashed as the moment draws closer.
Last weekend looked good, but ended windless for most. My choice to have a day on the beach in the sunshine with a nice summer swell was thwarted by cloud, an onshore cold breeze and a diminishing sloppy swell. The only thing to warm the heart was a phone call from Wallis sitting on a windless XFell.
This weekend looked good, but now, those isobars have squeezed together, I suppose they will produce another sloppy swell,,,for Monday when I'm back at work.
I began the year looking at the xc league, willing myself on to fly great distances, now I look at it to revive memories of flying. I try to tell myself, the summer holidays are coming soon, there will be plenty of flying, but as time marches on, so do the low pressure areas and frontal systems.
Will I ever fly again?
When the right weather gets here to fly, will I still have the ambition? In fact, will I still have any kit?
Even looking through the posts on the board is becoming predictable and boring with fewer and fewer posts per day. We are even contemplating riding bikes rather than planning flying trips. (Yes Andrew I know I said I would put up dates for a holiday in October, but I haven't got the enthusiasm at the moment, I will do it as soon as I get the enthusiasm back)
I think I need to get out more, I'm beginning to sound pessimistic, maybe I've caught it from Mad Dog?
Feeling  :???: is it just me?
See you out there!!!!!

well like you say the weekend was looking good but now it looks to be very strong winds again and more unsettled.

as for eppic flying i think broughton would of give us 50k if we forgot the comp and followed the lift and wind.

still some of the best flying i have had this year

Do you know anything about it Mike?

I had seen the info in Skywings. Presumably camping and some restrained beer drinking??

:D
It is sad to measure your life in terms of hours flown...... but even sadder not to.........

Well Brian, if it's any consolation, you're not the only one!

I bought a brand new Mentor back in February, and have hardly had chance to get it out of the bag, due to pressure of work in the first half of the year.
And now it's July. Several of my customers have cancelled work at short notice and it looks like the whole of July and 1st week of August will be relatively quiet - so what does the weather do? Stays cr@p most of the time. :x

In the past month the best I've managed is 20 mins of ground-handling at Horden -and it was nice to get that much!

it looks like work will start to pick up again in the 2nd week of August - I can therefore confidently predict superb flying weather from Monday 11th August onwards. Trust me on this - it's always good when I cannot get out!

Well listen in.

We have all been here before? There is not one sport that has not been

Affected by the weather one way or the other this year.

Now I am planning to go to ST Hilaire this September But? Waiting till

The last minute before I book to see what the weather is up to.

Would YOU be up for some nice French Sunshine?
