It's a good programme but quite a bit of debate in the Paramotoring world as to did they actually do it or not!! Watch and see what you think. There is never a shot of them over the summit.

Bear Grylls....

Post by ron freeman »

Bear Grylls...quite a character done some reading on this person but has far as the Everest statisticians are concerned he's not flown over it.

At the time he claims he flew over Everest there were climbers on the mountain and nobody saw him also with no photo's for evedence or GPS...It leaves you thinking, I would of still enjoyed being behind him though !
Maximise your time & dosh do both Hanggliding & Paragliding :)

Just watched this last night. His plan wasn't to fly over the top of Everest, for fear of rotor from Nuptse. He just climbed straight up above his base camp about 5 miles away until he thought he was higher than the summit, but he couldn't tell for sure as his instruments had failed. It did look to me from his on board camera that he was higher than the summit but there's no way to verify this. All seems a bit pointless as if he just wanted to be technically higher than Everest but not actually over the mountain he could have done that anywhere in the world. Not like Richard Meredith Hardy who flew his microlight right over the summit....

But the engine he used is an engineering marvel, the best power to weight ratio on any engine I've seen and absolutely tiny for it's power. Far too good for paramotors, they should sell them to microlighters.
