Turkey Tips.....

Post by AlastairW »

I have had a number of people ring me with questions about the Turkey trip. Here are some tips for new visitors....

MONEY
I just take Sterling. All of the shops will change money, normally at a better rate than you would get in the UK (I got 2.63 Lira to the pound in May).
Remember to have a £10 note to pay for your entry visa at Dalaman.

CLOTHING
I have not used a flying suit the last 3 or 4 times I have been. For flying wear a pair of long trousers (if you slip in shorts on take off you will gash your leg)
and a long sleeved T shirt.... it keeps the sun of. The coldest bit of the flying is likely to be the trip up, when the truck passes through the shade on the back of the mountain.

WATER
A camelbak or similar is pretty much essential. You can buy bottled water in all of the shops, including frozen bottles. Buy a frozen bottle before you set off, and it will have melted by the time you get to t/o.

RADIOS

143.95 is the local police / ambulance service (or similar... I forget which) so we will have to sort out a different frequency. Make sure you know how to do it on you radio!

SUN CREAM
Lots.....

llHow much spending money?.... it depends... if you are a posh git like Neil, you will need more than us mere plebs staying at the Majestic. £50 a day should cover transport, meals and drinks.

Looking forward to Friday morning.....!
It is sad to measure your life in terms of hours flown...... but even sadder not to.........

All good advice, but if you are planning to go up instead of doing silly dangerous things downwards I'd fly in a light fleece at least. It is still cold at cloudbase!
