Loop or Wingover that went wrong

Post by John Wallis »

Hell of a bit if captured video. It looks like the pilot is trying to do a loop with low airspeed the glider tumbles and he comes detached from the glider. The chute opens very fast and saves him.

Just looked at it again and you can see the broken keel hanging down as he lands.

Is he lucky or what?
Have you seen the one on U tube where a guy is showing off in a HG in front of the hill --- try's to loop and hits a paraglider, looks like the para is OK but the HG is'nt as fortunate.

And the glider then come down, hitting him on the head :)

Before buying my reserve I watched a manufacturers demo video. Chap with parachute was hauled up by crane and was attached to a bungee cord. He threw himself off, and threw his chute at the same time. Chute was open before the bungee cord had even begun to tension properly.

I know that the demo was probably 'fixed' in order to show how quickly the reserve would open, but it's nice to know that the biggest delay factor for opening time would be the time taken to decide to throw the thing in the first place!
