Via Ferrata - THE Tour!
Huge in Europe, particularly in The Alps and Dolomites, Honister's Via Ferrata is a first for England and the The Lake District! Allowing the average man, woman or child from the street the opportunity to reach higher and further from the street than they ever thought possible! All equipment is provided and you are securely attached to a cable which guides you along and up the precipitous edge of the mountain to its summit at 2,126 feet. The views are awesome!

What should you wear? How should you dress?

Clothing may get wet, dirty or even damaged. You should bring a change of clothing for the way home. Honister cannot be responsible for damage caused to clothing.

Dress appropriately for the weather conditions. Honister is probably the wettest place in England and, even in mid summer, the temperature can be very cool. Be prepared for all weather types.

Fitting clothing is recommended - no loose or hanging clothing or clothing which could impede movement or catch on the cable or rock. Short or loose fitting shorts and tops which expose the midriff are not recommended as harnesses can rub and chafe

Boots which give ankle support are recommended - footwear should surround and enclose the whole foot and should have good grip - no sandals, slip on shoes, open toed shoes or canvas/ cotton shoes

Long hair must be tied back securely and hair must not hinder the close fitting or straps of the helmet.

Body piercings must be removed, securely covered or taped over.

Safety Essentials

All Participants on Honister's Via Ferrata must attend a safety briefing/familiarisation training prior to starting their adventure.

Participants must wear a safety harness and helmet at all times while using Honister's Via Ferrata.

Once the safety briefing/familiarisation training is completed, participants are responsible for checking their safety equipment, attaching themselves to the safety system, and taking all appropriate precautions.

Failure to adhere to the safety briefing instructions, or to attach or property attach to the safety system means risk of falling and consequent serious or fatal injury.

Requirements - Honister's Via Ferrata is physically challenging but does not require a high level of body strength. Any able-bodied person in moderate physical condition with no medical conditions should be able to complete the climb. As a guideline, if you can climb a 3m rope ladder you should be able to climb Honister's Via Ferrata. You must be a minimum height of 1m 30cm to participate. Participants must be over 10 years of age. Participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied and supervised by a participating adult. One participating adult can supervise either two minors aged 10 to 15 years of age or up to four 16 to 18 year olds. This experience is not suitable for any person weighing more than 20 stones (128kg) and/or a waist measurement exceeding 45 inches (114cm) . Please wear appropriate clothing (no high heels or flip flops!) Cameras, accessories and personal equipment must be securely attached to you and retained within your clothing at all times during the ascent. All mountain activities contain an element of risk. There is an inevitable risk of injury to persons undertaking such activity. Via Ferrata is weather dependent. Please contact us or check out our website (www.honister.com) on the morning of departure if the weather appears inclement.

All participants on Honister's Via Ferrata must attend a safety briefing/familiarisation training prior to starting their adventure.

Please do not proceed with the booking unless you have read the above terms. Anyone who does not meet the above requirements will not be allowed to take part.

You must check-in at Honister via Ferrata reception desk 10 minutes before your tour departs.

What a coincidence! I'm off to the Dolomites for a bit of via ferrata-ing at the beginning of June, Italian air traffic control permitting.

This is what 'proper' Via Ferrata looks like:-

Honister slate mines have given the CSC loads of support this year with preparation for the LCC and 'Butt Bash'. So far they have given us 14-tons of hard core to fix the track into the field, market price for this is over a couple of hundred pounds.

It won't happen but if its not flyable for the LCC then the mines are a great place to entertain yourself for a couple of hours and hats off to them for having the vision to open the U.K.s first Via Ferrarta. If any of you do choose to visit then mention you are local pilots and were recommend going there by the local club, great p.r. incase I need more hardcore.
