North South cup and the north won this year

Post by gary stenhouse »

A great day with a lot of if not all the UK XC champions though Gutherie should of been there and Wayne and Alex were disappointed that you were not there. A day with the wrong wind direction 90 degrease off hill yet still 3 x 95 declared goal 1 x 126 2 at 82 and me at 42 late in the day by myself. Was great to see the super gaggle 32 just off the ridge but not so great when you got there first.

the one thing I did learn is you have to take off if your going to do any good, and the top pilots never waited a minute no wind and off the hill,

Steve senior was straight off the hill on a death glide and climbed out as Hugh miller straight off after him. he was asked at presentation what made him take off and his simple answer was if the winds not on the hill then it must be off the hill. so you have to go to it as it wont come to you. seeing some of the greats bottom landing slope landing and having sweaty walk ups shows we can all go down. if comps were like this I would be entering them all the time sign to fly and just go for it in your own time fantastic stuff.

on the above some will remember steve as a HG pilot and one of the first PG pilots and the lads from Scotland said many years ago he always did the same thing and always seem to work. also

got talking to Wagga Watts about sea breeze flying and he is the master and was some very interesting learning curve about how it works, may let you into the secret :D :D

Hi Gary. Very well done, it would be great if you can give a chat at the club next time I will look forwards to that.

Well done Gary, it's good to see the NS cup in the north of England for the first time. Shame I couldn't make it (maybe next year?). Alex and Wayne are really canny lads, Wayne's been flying since he was fifteen and is an inspiration to watch thermalling I met Alex in Australia in 2000 and he has since become a pilot of international standing but they have both retained a well grounded attitude not big headed in any way.

We also need some tasks for the members who are not ready for XC's so some nice ridge runs will be just the job with a bonus for target landing. 8)
