Encouraging Pilot Progression

Post by colin keightley »

Does anyone remember the I-spy michelin books

http://www.ispymichelin.com/

I was thinking of creating a book kind of thing for the club along the same lines.

Full of little challenges at club sites that you could tick off and even score points for. Daft little things like 500ft altitude gain at East Hill or make the lake in front of cross fell. These tasks could range from very easy to very difficult.

If i was to do this I would need some contributors to help by sending me stuff to put in it but i will do all the DTP for it.

My main focus for this is to help encourage improvement in flying especially within the newer pilots and the more experienced pilots may wish to do it to see who can score the highest. It also may open a few eyes to what is actually possible on a paraglider.

Let me know guys.
If Acro was easy they'd call it Cross Country

This could also contain helpful pointers on the subject and diagrams. Such as one of the task would be jumping the gap at castle eden dene and advice such as before jumping the gap push out over the beach then when the lift runs out and you head across the gap its even more of a down wind leg as you are heading across and backward to the ridge.

John, we all know that a bit of a challenge for you but not too bad for most..

Not a bad idea Colin but the BHPA pilot task book has quite a few good ones as well but not many seem to bother.

I take it you bought the acro wing ?? looking forward to seeing what you can do with it

 good idea for the book are you thinking of something like a paragliding version of a climbing guide with site specific tasks ??
could be a lot of work

Never seen a climbing guide but yes the tasks would be site specific. It could be released on a yearly basis adding to it each year. I would do it in a pdf so it can be just printed off or I could get it printed properly if people wanted a good copy.
