great weekend in the lakes

Post by bill-scott »

we loaded up the vans and headed, west like a wagon train setting out across the prairie. But ended up more like a top gear road trip:lol:
we had to stop at the pass to rest the horses. When we startet off again were followed by hostile's ( the coppers) for 10 mile but managed to out run them , that was just before some of Andrew,s aka James horses went lame and had to make roadside repairs as we headed along rout 66 into the lakes we were met with the sight of gliders in the air over Clough .Champion! no more guessing we knew were we were going. It seemed a bit top end at the bottom but we still headed up, and were soon airborne .Absolutely brilliant lift everywhere, but a bit windy at times, we could here on the radio harry postile and some others fro the Cayley club making there way from swinside to grassmere. We managed about an hour boating about before the wind `really started to pick up and we were grounded . so back into the wagons and headed down to grassmere we managed to blag free entry into the show and set up camp on the edge of the show ground parking the wagons in a circle in case of attack from injuns after a good meal of beans we went to the local saloon for lashing,s and lashing,s of fizzy beer before getting lost on our way back to camp.
The next day started with bright sunshine but soon clouded `over and with a forecast for light winds we were not confident of getting any decent flying .How wrong we were after a light scratchy start it turned out to be an epic day easy climbs up to base with lift absolutely everywhere it seemed like you could have flown anywhere, after about an hour or so started to get cold so decided to go down and have a go at the target this was easier said than done it took about half an hour searching for sink to get down before the land by time, finally landing a reasonable 3metres from the target but unfortunately not close enough to get any chocolates,I thought Brian might have won the altitude gain prize but not to be the nhpc honor was held up by Angus winning second place in the b comp accuracy . But prizes or not all had a great time good flying in good company all in all a cracking weekend :D :D :D :D :D

I did the same sort of thing but around central London with the kids..... and no flying.

Can I join the next posse that heads out?
