Hi Steve

My system (xc soar and a android tablet) runs great. It cost about a hindred quid. The only down issues are the fact it's a little big for my flight deck and that I have to carry a backup battery (£20 on ebay).

I've heard some great reports about kobo with a gps fitted! Easy to do and good value.

Have you checked out flyskyhi app? For just £4.99 it's looks a real bargain.

I'm looking to run Xcsoar on a tablet aswell. Considering Galaxy tab 3 with a 5" screen. Anybody have any experience with readability in sunlight and operation with this tablet, or any other thoughts on devices out there?

Once set up right Xcsoar is great. The trick is the get the best device to run it on. I use a Samsung tab 3 but it's a bit big when put on my flight deck. A backup battery pack is required £20 from ebay.

What size screen is your tab 3 and how readable is it in strong sunlight?

Probably a little too big as I stuggle to get it on the flight deck. It was the smallest Tab 2; I'm sure there's better options now. No problems seeing the screen in sunlight.
