was about 55 degrees north easterly and would say top end wind 15-18 mph ground level wind.
while flying the castle the wind did not seem to strong but once out in the low dunes it felt windy with them being so shallow.
the problem is getting taken off high enough to get the wind as there is the walls stopping you getting any higher and the dunes out front breaking up the wind.
once off it was easy to stay up and had good speed forwards and back and forwards as it was so square on the face of the castle.
me and Ron have now got knight status so have freedom of the castle

Gary, 2yrs ago I went to see the Castle & landowner George Armstrong and there is no way he wants us there ! he does own the land at the back of the castle to the beach, I don't know where you took off from but Ron in picture is setting up on his private road to the castle.gary stenhouse wrote:

Sounds like you were in luck not to get approached by him personally (probably not around) the problem is.. he also has many contacts in the tenant, farmer & land owners world including the Duke !
I would say fly the dunes nearer Seahouses to keep everyone happy

i think as a one off i cant see there beeing a problem but it is not a place i would actively go and get permision for.
the dunes are very shallow and need a strong wind to fly, as for taken of we did not trespass to get airborne and i would think given the publicity for years was a kitesurfer and bamburgh castle i think a paraglider would even be better.
newcastle airport showed the prowd picture of colin balwinn with his kite and Bamburgh castle promoting northumberland.
it not a place for a beginner at all and now i have flown would not be in a great hurry to go back unless invited for photo shoot.
as for tennant farmers and future problems i think this is a slight over worry
