Coxhoe

Post by Jim Bittlestone »

Hi All,
Has anyone flown at Coxhoe? I keep driving past on the way to fires and wonder. I'm sure I've read about someone flying it in the past.
Cheers
Jim

By "Coxhoe" I assume you mean the North facing hill to the East of the A1, North of J61.(Cassop Vale).
I used to fly radio control gliders from there years ago and got good height gains.
The only problem I can see is the barbed wire fence just below where you would take off from.
I think the land owner is Mr Johnson or Johnston. He has the farm at the top of the road past Heugh Hall. I think its called Quarrington Farm.

Cassop vale is National Trust, faces NNW and is soarable although not much of it, and at the right time of year has a nice plowed field in front of it.The west side of it is covered in trees although there is an old quary face on the south west corner which would probably be soarable but realy not anywhere to land.
If Acro was easy they'd call it Cross Country
