Nice Rack

Post by Pete Batey »

No not that sort. I'd like to build a hang gliding rack to go on the Rav4 along the lines of:
http://www.hanggliding.org/racks.php
but using something like this:
http://www.hitchsource.com/roadmaster-t ... 28666.html
without wrecking the car.
Anyone ideas of where to source suitable bits and pieces?
Anyone got suggestions for good designs?
Thanks
Pete

I think the glider rider is as good an idea as any Peter.
I used to have a contraption like this on an Astra estate. It did the job well but was a bigger faff than sticking the rider on the bonnet.

I used to have one but eventually it gets your paint work. I'd like something a bit more robust.Cheers,

Hi Peter,

Try the Drovers Forge near Consett - Brooms Lane, Leadgate, Consett, County Durham, DH8 6RS, UK (01207) 506234.

I have used these in the past for various bits of "stuff" and their service is second to none, with reasonable prices. If you "mock up" what you want (use metal coat hangers/cardboard/gaffer tape etc), take it in to them, they will make it up for you out of the whatever gauge box section that you need - alternatively get the tape measure out and get the engineering drawings constructed!!

I have no financial connection with these guys!!

Hope this helps.

There is an engineer rumored to be found in the north shields area, and I have seen evidence that even back in the early eighties was designing and fabricating racks for a mini's that would hold 4 gliders!

If ever there was a man that needed to be talked to about such a solution, this is he.

I agree with Fingers. Mad Dog is the man to talk to about glider racks. He's built more glider racks than you and I have had hot dinners.......

Indeed he can for a car but it is a great piece of kit to lift the load above head height - a better start to a day out than a knackered back or dropping your £9000 dream machine :)
