Good Week, So Far... and thanks

Post by Jim Bittlestone »

Hi All,
Having a canny week so far. Flying at Captain Cooks on Monday with great lift, but a bit bouncy, thermals coming through with corresponding areas of sink, but a good experience none the less. Oh yes and a pie or two, worth the travel just for that. :P
Tuesday I went to Marske for the first time and had a great time finally getting past my 10 hours flying. 8)
Crossing the gaps was quite easy due to the wind being top end, flying to Saltburn and back a few times then I followed a Kestrel below me for 30 minutes which was something to remember. Spectacular being so close.
It didn't seem fussed that I was above, it just gave a look now and again to make sure I wasn't trying to get to it's dinner first.
Then I saw Ron Don and Bill Scott who looked like they were on a mission, flying towards Skinninggrove around the corner with Ron landing I know not where?
Bill was on his way back when I left for work after hovering for what seemed like ages over the cliffs on the point high up. Not sure if it was too windy to get around or if Bill was just keeping an eye on Ron, then came back for the car?
A young lad with a hang glider arrived, looking a bit nervous but he took off and flew over to Saltburn in no time at all, quite impressive glide angle.
Quite a bit of dog muck about the place, best place to be was in the air.
Thanks to Pete and John from North Yorks for the gen on the site.
Today looks like Blackhall possibly, another site I've not been to before.

I'll keep the red ribbon on a while longer, not sure when I'll be confident enough to take it off, I quite like the way people give me room to fly and appreciate the advice folk offer.

So to all those who have offered advice since joining the club about sites and flying etc, thanks.

I passed my C.P the end of July, so in 7 weeks I've managed 11 hours flying which I'm chuffed with considering the weather and work etc. :o

Looking forward to getting my new DHV 2 wing next week and ripping it up with the big lads
Game on

Hi All,
Went to Crimdon today as I was short of time. No one else was about, the wind was 16-20mph NNE, cold, alone, new site, forgot to take my ritalin etc
so I didn't get my wing out. A bit top end to fly a new site on my own.
Sounds like Marske was the place to be again.
Oh and...
might not be a joke, but if its not i even waited untill i had 60 hours
Just so this doesn't develop into one of those mega-posts, I was joking about the DHV 2 wing.

(Decided to go for an Ice Peak -why mess about?)

Tomorrow is another day etc etc

Nice one Jim, there is no substiute for quality airtime !

Be careful when flying Saltburn its a brilliant place to fly but when the wind is top end you don't need to be flying around the corner to Skinning grove if you get blown back out on the point your in big trouble with very strong rotor.

You can alway turn and run down wind but remember there is a valley over the back of Saltburn cliffs !
Maximise your time & dosh do both Hanggliding & Paragliding :)

Cheers Ron,
nice to know. I only went just passed the pier, I didn't like the look of the next gap and I hadn't seen anyone go past there until Ron Don and Bill went on their travels.
Little by little, just ticking over, keeping safe, getting to know more sites etc.
