Paragliding and self actualisation

Post by Sad Northerner »

I'm not suprised but am a little disappointed at the clubs response to it's members valiant performance at the latest BCC final. fair enough we didn't come away as the champions, but, in my eyes it was the most successful outing by the club yet.
The commitment of the members was evident in the turn out; with too many people for places available and, right from the start, the NHPC showed that having a good time was a greater priority than winning; the crack is always good at the NHPC pitch.
The morning of the comp was a shambles, pilots were missing communications were poor and hangovers hampered performance. But, despite all of this the our boys showed that the supposedly pissy conditions were nothing in comparison to what we're used to in the north.
Although his modesty won't allow him to admit it Chris Foster wisely tagged one of the other teams hot shots (the current nat XC leader) and matched him on an early exit of the hill.
But, perhaps, the most mature effort was from our men Bryan and Neil. They displayed an ability to detach themselves from the selfish theme that often runs through competition paragliding. they combined their efforts to make the most of the day, drifting together in the remnants of a thermal using each other as a reference and, in turn, perhaps gaining an experience that will stay with them for longer than had they just flown on their own..... to me the true essence of paragliding.

PS I've been drinking.
