Any news from Saturday?????????
Handle every stressful situation like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
Just pee on it and walk away.

Having been to the Guthrie Guru lectures my game plan was set for the day, if you want to know what it was,,,,,you should have turned up to listen to the Guru and learn.
Having not 'gone over the back' at Model I decided to gather as much knowledge from the xc hounds that I could. Mr Wallis, always one to talk to, gave out some superb advice, which I will come back to later.
The task was called, the window open, so off I went, bagged a quick thermal, a couple of 360s, that's enough height, off to Cringle, looking good, arrived with boat loads of height, topped up with another thermal and off to Hasty. Just me and 2 other gliders, with them following. Things were getting a little low on the lifty bits and the turn at Hasty showed that the wind had gone off to the east slightly and no other gliders in sight. The trip back,,,was,,, errr,,,low! Having to fly further out into the valley to avoid the trees, the other 2 were now slightly higher than me. The final dash to Cringle left me too low, so I landed at the east end. A quick take off in thermal managed to get me a few feet higher and round to the fence at the west end of the bowl, the other 2 managed to scrape round and back to take off. I decided to walk as no one was in the air. I passed Ron Don sitting on 'Marshal's Lip'
So there it was,,,words of wisdom from Wallis and top to bottoms can be completed in style! No, his words of wisdom worked later.
The wind came back on and off everyone went, another dumping at the bottom of Cringle (I hate that place with a vengeance) three turn points and over the back,,,easy! Except for all the pilots sitting at various points on the hill. It took 2 1/2 hours flying around before getting the thermal to go with. Several visits to the white room at about 400ft were to result in nothing but a struggle back to the edge of Cringle. But eventually 3 of us got something half decent and between us managed to keep track of it for a little while. Words from Wallis ringing in my ears, drift slowly and stick with anything thats not going down. Two of us had heard the sermon, but Anto was eager for the miles,,,,down down down!!!! Which left 2 drifting round in circles of 'not sink'. Eventually when I couldn't find anything that didn't give the sinking feeling I took a dive for a ridge facing the wind, looking over my shoulder, the other guy was on the deck, just me now. Found some lift, drifted with it, hmmmm if I keep going with this I'm going to end up wrapped round that mast. Off to another ridge nothing, pick a landing field, pack up and two lifts later I was back at the cafe. No radio signal and no mobile reception and a window that closed in under an hour could have invalidated the flight if the two lifts hadn't come along. I did pass a few other pilots on the journey back. A very frustrating day, but another flop over the back. One day!!!! I keep dreaming

It is sad to measure your life in terms of hours flown...... but even sadder not to.........
