Just a week away now..... our team have been locked away in darkened rooms, with nothing but a stale crust and a cup of water to live off, to enable them to become fully focused on the task in hand... (OK... we let Ron Don have a bottle of red...)
for what its worth I have attached the metcheck forecast for the area for the 18/19th August
As for details these are pretty sketchy at the minute, but I have the following message from the organiser Ken Wilkinson sent about 3 weeks ago:
At Llandinam as I said before, 18/19 August. At the Lion Hotel which
is on the main road. I have NOT booked showers as they will cost too
much. I will be asking 10 pounds for the weekend and a BBQ will be
provided for the competitors on Sat night (free). There are only 4
Hangie teams registered so they will get an invite anyway!
Breakfasts are 5.50 in the Hotel
The weather this weekend looks rubbish down here, (for a change) and
if so the top 6 will go ahead as they stand. (I dont know if you can
get a round in the Lakes, Saturday looks like it might work, in which
case only Thames Valley and SE Wales will get a place in the Final.
It is really great to see the spirit of competition being encouraged
ooop north. It was a non existent entity for a while. Great, lets keep
it up.
It would be an idea to discuss any rule changes needed. What about
only best 5 scores to count (not an issue this year!)
What about limiting to 3 teams from the north and 3 from the south for
the final? What about overly qualified pilots (we (Avon)can field a
few British team members and the like but I dont ever put them in the
team)? Are there any other issues that need discussion?
We have spent the money for the final and have no fall back
contingency, or no money for one at least. In view of the
outstandingly few flyable days, what would captains want to do? We
could just go on points like last year. Would teams want to try to
have an 'informal' comp somewhere up north as 4 teams would seem to be
coming from there? Let me know your views via this forum.
Llandinam grid ref is OS 025 885

Range Forcast looks good for the weekend as far as I can tell. (A
ridge is shown on GFS.
My mob is 07792833991. Stafford Evans is 07748145712. Morgan Nicholas
is 07828481596
Please be sure to bring a radio, for safety.
We have contact with the local club and I will arrange to have someone
to help with site selection.
Morgan Nicholas will be the meet head. We will have some wind dummies
from Avon who are coming up. (Me as well)
BBQ is for team members. Would it be too cheeky to ask if those not in
the teams pay a fiver for it?? (This will probably depend on numbers)
Hangies are going to be poorly represented. They have their Nationals
on in St Andre so they are mostly in France. Kernow are coming and
probably Skysurfers and Pennine. We will play by ear.
Try to check with your clubs about helping/sponsoring your team! I
will ask 10 pounds a head for Friday and Saturday camping and maybe
your club can help make it a cheaper weekend. Sorry about the showers,
I hope we will do something different next year to cut costs of
toilets etc, and hopefully get a retrieve van!
NYSC may NOT be able to raise a team as they are mostly away so in
that case Ive left a message with Wessex to fill in if possible.
The pub opens at 6.00 and will have bar meals at around 7.50 till 8.30pm.
Breakfasts are 5.50 full English and will be on from 8.15 to 9.30.
The shop opposite will have a stock of batteries/sandwiches/etc for
stocking up on the day.
Toilets will arrive Friday morning though at what time Im not sure, so
camping on Thursday night may be a little difficult.
Im sure I will have to post more but I think thats 95% of it at least.
All teams have confirmed, and we should be about 40 plus people. Some
teams are bringing extra bodies for the crack.

Hey just a thought guys. The last time the Northumbrians were club champions was when we won "Mere" in Wiltshire 3 times in a row in the early 80s. We beat the likes of Johnny Carr, Micheal Carnet, Graham Slater, etc etc and some of these guys were in the worlds
We all got so pissed on the first night we were very ill. Me more than most as I couldn't even cope with the drink then. I got out of the tent early and found a ditch where I thought I'd be safe to sleep off my illness, I didn't care about the comp anymore. But the bastards found me, rigged my glider and literally dragged me up the hill and clipped me in to fly the task. I was in the Que for take off and reaching
It would be bloody fantastic if the Northumbrians could recapture our glory days for 2007.
Good luck lads and lasses make sure you fly your heart out.

Well b****r me,
You never know who is going to read this crap you write
It is a sad state of affairs when for a blast from the past the only mention of my name of the whole of the Northubria site is giving a hung over Wallis the bandit a bollocking and it is true I did at times fly standing on the bottom bar but i always wore a harness at the time
Mike (I thought I used to be quite good at this sport) Mavin
