Scottish speed flying

Post by gordie »

Wow, what a great couple of days. At last the snow drought is over and its time to raid the toy cupboard and head to the Highlands.

Spent Friday and some of Saturday skiing in a truly magical Glenshee, powder snow and wall to wall sunshine, the Highlands at there absolute best. After much indecision about sacrificing fresh tracks for something new I finally cracked my Nano speed flying wing out of its bag. Had some great flights/swopes/wagas and various other antics for what I think may be the u.k's first speed flying (with ski's as it supposed to be done). Glenshee were cool about me flying provided I stayed off the main marked pistes and actively encouraged me. Even managed to make it into the local paper:

Lets hope this is the start of the Scottish winter that snow heads like me have been dreaming about.......

That snow looks great!!... you would be forgiven for thinking you were looking at the Alps.

We have not had snow like that since the 70's, dry and drifting. Used to love it like that as a kid, sumersalting off roofs into drifts and sledging, Polly bagging, shoe skateing, with the professionalasim of a Kitsbuel Olyimpics.... Good times..... Jumpers for goal posts.

BUT

All we get down here now is wet slushy crap, to which I hate with a passion. Global changes in weather? Yes, for sure.. is it us? I dont know. But its going on, and within our life time.

Wow that's a rare Glenshee!!! Only seen it once like that (Twice now) It's usually cloud to the deck and 50 mile an hours winds. The snow is so rare up there now I always wonder where the guys come from to man the lifts?

Might have a look up myself next week end if the snow stays 8)
