Jim, Not sure what points you are/were trying to make cos you've deleted them. But if you are wanting to grow as a pilot I would be willing to coach you, You have demonstrated some natural talent for this sport and I think if you keep your head screwed on will do well. Look me up when you are next o...

I suspect that I could have put on a lot of height directly above Grasmere village on this occasion to top up for a run further south. The simple answer Dave If you suspect you could ,you should try. You are right about Loughrigg - It is only worth contemplating when there is a good north wind showing on the Lake and dont do it towards the end of the day either. It is just like it is often worth going into the space behind 'The Lion and the Lamb' but not on a northerly. On the right day itis a g...

You're getting it Tony,
There are alot of signals to help you choose the right route for the day and when you read them right the route become much more of a 'milk run'

Reading your account Jim - I would surmise one of the reasons why you found it tricky is down to the wind direction the more North there is on the Ridge the bouncier the traditional toping up places get. In my experience, I either try to get high and fly the ridgeline that separates Thirlmere valley...

That will be the Golden 3 proto then Jim . Ondrej had one with him at St Hillaire. Very nearly the finished article so all we need is some good autumn weather at the test centre.

If doing big xc's was simply all about climbing into cloud then everyone would be at it. Doing big xc's is all about timing. knowing which climbs are likely to go to base, or clear the terrain safely is first. Second know when to you can speed up ( skip climbs or leave climbs early) or slow down and...

Do you have a good NE site ( I ask not in jest - in case there isnt) Would imagine it could give a potentially great xc run.
