November Meeting **Safety** Please read

Post by colin keightley »

I have decided that Novembers meeting will be about safety which will be headed by Ali Guthrie.

I have managed to temporarily secure the function room for Sunday 22nd November and plan to hold the Auction on that night with a 7pm start should give us plenty of time.

Had we kept the auction for the club meeting, we would usually quickly skate over club business in order to to get on with the auction. Even if we were not to have a safety talk I don't think we would have given the safety part of the meeting the time it requires/deserves.

It has been a difficult decision to make but I think our safety is paramount.

I have had to take many things into consideration and I think this offers the best fit.

Hi Colin you're doing a grand job a bit of a baptism of fire for you. Just one thought that might work is it worth trying to have the auction on the December meeting after the meal and handing out the trophies? It would make it a full night but it could work. What to you think?

If Gary can't make it we could do telephone bids ;)

It usually takes quite a long time to get the auction done and the December meeting is usually a nice one to have a good chat with each other

No change there just sticking an extra night in. The meeting is on November 4th but after the meeting we will be addressing safety.

Hi Colin, I thought we discussed safety matters at every meeting.. how long can we talk about pilots flying in strong winds ?

Ron its not just a talk about pilots flying in strong wind, do you honestly think that I would cause myself so much hassle just for a couple of strong wind launches.

Colin I am fully aware that safety talks are important thats why safety is on the agenda at every meeting.. so why stop an annual event to talk more about safety ? All clubs have members think they can keep on flying in strong winds and get away with it ! we can try to convert and that's all you can do. Paragliding is very much an individual sport, most pilots learn from other pilots mistakes and their own and the rest only learn from their own mistakes and that can hurt quite a bit.

I can't make the November meeting now, wished I could.

So your complaining that the auction isn't on the 4th but you can't attend anyway. Hmmm and I havnt cancelled the auction I have moved it to the 22nd and we can dedicate the whole night to the auction and not have to quickly get the meeting out of the way first.

I ask you this am I/we wrong to be concerned about the safety of our members. And is there really any harm in having the auction on a dedicated night.
