Well can't remember the name of the windsurfer. I know he is a top guy

But. He had a nightmare. He was well and truly MUNCHED Sail shredded mast snapped. He tried to paddle in but got caught in the rip and taken right out into it again. He then got ripped into the main channel and managed to tie himself & board to a shipping buoy. They did call the inshore RNLI but I think he managed to just paddle in. Knackered ! Phew

Great pics, an epic wave & what a story to go with it!
Gotta be careful with those rips, both a blessing &a curse!

The photographer was there with Gabe Davies from Tynemouth, ex British champ and now big wave surfer and journalist ( lifeguard at Tynmouth in the summer) saw the pics earlier in the week, Gabe sent them to me. Looked like a good day, the Gare doesn't get that good very often. Bit of an epic getting in and out apparently.
See you out there!!!!!

Bloody hell surfers do actually stand up !! First time I've seen a surfer stand up on his board on the NE coast !!
I was beginning to believe they just enjoy bobbing around lying flat out on their boards having a sleep
Feel the fear and do it anyway!

We do have a cup of tea or a beer as well. :)

The masts on modern sails are 4m or less Gary, but still an awsome wave. Gabe was ill for the next 2 days, the joys of surfing in the Tees!
