Water wings are much cheaper than selling the bike.. Graham

Lothian club
The Lothian club do fly the northerly site and the local farmer is happy to see us there. The northerly side is much more user friendly with grass slopes for hillside landings

Don't forget St. Abbs head is a nature reserve guys. Wildlife and Marine.
It's a very important nesting site for the birds and i would imagine there would be hell on if we were flying round the head.

the forecast today is looking nne and looking at google then i would say park up at st abbs then walk along the walk untill you find a suitable take off looks like the best ption as there is no other buildings around. and after all i pay a lot more tax than any birds so tinks i should have more rights

must say there is 6 cottages for rent next to the farm as well and also out the back yet another wind farm, take off is 600ft ttb. and off to the left there is safe landing options and with 600 feet no problem. also i am sure that on a good day then open xc will be possible though the wind farm may be interesting but the ground behind is baking heather to produce thermals.
must say breath taken when you take off and fly over the sea and look down over the vast cliffs, then to the north there is even a old mine down on the beech that would of been great to investigate.
cheers Gary

From the 'right to roam' legislation / The Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
Farmland: access rights apply to fields but not to grassland being grown for hay or silage if it is above ankle height. Field margins are included in access rights, even if sown with a crop. When crossing arable fields use the tracks or “tramlines” made by tractor wheels, or any unsown ground. Avoid disturbing farm animals, especially where young or aggressive animals are present.
some information for scotland that we do not have in the UK however always deal with caution as a shot gun is a shot gun and not worth shouting your rights even if your right.
treat those with respect and you are more likely to get respect back
cheers Gary

right to fly ?
Nothing in there about right to fly Gary, where did you get the information about the right to fly in Scotland ?
If I decide to fly anywhere I would always get the landowners permission first so he knows what is going on and most importantly he know that you are there in case of an accident.
It can be very embarrassing for the landowner if there is an accident on his land and he never knew you were there..

i think that is the key you have the right to enter land and carry out activity that does not harm the land. permision is great as long as it is obvious where to go and ask, however sometimes you may be taken off on one site but flying over several other farms along the way.
the english right to roam specificaly says that you do not automaticly have the right to fly a paraglider or hg, i mean a few thousand people fly in the UK and most not active yet they put that in the right to roam. unbeleivable thate the goverment even thought about the sport given 99% of the population have never even seen a pg or hg
i do beleive that farmers do not like roamers due to there somewhat harsher atitude to roaming so i think in a lot of cases we would be ok if you use discretion.

right to fly
para 2.7 section 9 of the Scottish Outdoor Access Code states clearly that under recreational activities the right to roam includes rights in the air and underground as long as it is a non motorised airsport.

also the Scottish Outdoor Access website clarifies it a little further below

There are exceptions where buildings and livestock or the land is zoned off for other purposes but the Code seems to suggest you can go where you want and fly within reason.
