2010 Team Competition

Post by brian day »

Same rules as last year, unless anyone has any other good ideas!
Names to be drawn from a hat, (it was going to be at the February meeting, but we'll have to see if there's time)
Comp to run from 1st Jan to 30th November 2010
OLC points, best 6 flights for each team member
Bonus points; 5 for team name within the week of the draw
Double the smallest points for 2 pilots flying together from the same team
Treble the smallest points for all team members fyying together.
Bonuses to remain, even if the flights nullified by better flights.
Hang glider and paraglider flights to count. (AC/DC pilots only have their best 6 flights from either disciplin)
How about including pre-declaired flights or triangles?
If you're interested post your name below to be included in the draw for the teams.
See you out there!!!!!

Me too.

Plus just to let folk know that Brian has kindly offered to run the scoring of the winter XC league and the summer XC league. I've got a busy year coming up with one thing and another and I asked if he would help me out which he has. Brian's also interested in learning more about running comps so he will assist in running the club comp with me and the scousers and will take my place the following year.

Thanks Brian.

Come on folks, I know there isn't much flying at the moment, but it will get better,,,honest!!!!!
At the moment we only have enough players for 2 teams. Last years comp had 8 teams and people in reserve.
Get your name down and join the best fun comp going, get in a team with Chis Foz, Ron Don or one of the clubs other great pilots, you will learn loads and have fun doing it.

Did I tell you,,,,My team won last year!!!!!!
Get yourself a team and see if you can Chase a Rainbow!

The competition is designed with people like you in mind, the idea is to get new pilots out on the hill with experienced ones, can i ask have you joined the club.

Hi Brian had a conversation with a pilot today and would be more keen to take part in the club team event if the rules were made more simple. The double treble etc points you can get when flying with members of your own team seems to be the stumbling block. Maybe if you made it purely the total score of all 4 pilots you might get a better take up of entries? What do others think??

I can't reply after tonight because I'm off to Chamonix Skiing :lek:

yeah I totally agree all that dodgy double, trebles and extra points if ya nanas dog manages to be with you, not only confuses things but take for instance our normal flying day!

Me, wend, Bill and Andrew usually travel together and although we do try our best to meet up with others in the club and be on the same site its not always the case. However does it mean to be competitive we must contact and fly with our team members and not car share to make our hobby more eco friendly?

it seems mad we cant just use the top 6 flights from the Club Table which is an obvious and easy way of tracking our progress. TBH I think half the club didnt understand the way the comp was calculated last year anyway I for one bamboozled.

i think the idea of the multipliers is to encourage the experienced flyers out with the newbies

As Colin says it was supposed to be to encourage new pilots to gain experience by flying with more experienced pilots. However to be honest the only teams that took advatage of the system was the Buzzards and Chasing Rainbows. I think this was more a case of apathy than misunderstanding though.
Unfortunately, this has been the case with all but a few entrants to the comp.
I'm more than happy to revert to the old system if that's what people want, it's a damn site easier for me and means that people don't have to bother with the comp, except to post their flights.
What about picking your own team, people may have more 'ownership' of the system and be more keen to take part?

Please comment so that I can get it right!
See you out there!!!!!

i think picking teams might make it more competitive unless the rules stipulate that you must have at least so many low airtimers per team

Far better to pick the teams from a hat, otherwise you are going to end up with AliG, RonDon, Chris Foster etc in one team.

But it would introduce the possibilities of transfers between teams, transfer fees, transfer windows, the possibility of large brown paper bags stuffed with fivers being handed over on cold railway station platforms..... :D :D

Just a thought for you to ponder on regarding team selection...

20 people enter for the comp.....
Decide on number per team.... eg teams of 4 meaning 5 teams in total
The five people who had the highest individual scores in last years comps become the "captains".....
"Captains" draw the remaining names from the hat..... OR.... the "Captains" take it in turn to pick their own team from the rest of the entrants......?? Remember how fair football was in the schoolyard??

You will then definetly have at least one "top performer" in each team.

Awaiting a good flaming from the top performers in last years comp :D :D

Due to the overwhelming response, I have decided to change the format of the competition to make things as easy as possible for me to administer.
Teams will be drawn from a hat at February's meeting
Top 5 flights to count, OLC score.
Flights from one discipline only, to be declared at the beginning of the season.
If by June a pilot has not submitted a flight (under normal circumstances) he or she will be scrapped from the team and the Mean average scores will count for all teams.

I hope this keeps things simple and everyone happy.
We could still do with a few more people, so, wherever you are hiding at the moment, come and join in the fun and camerwarderwi of being part of a team.
I'm sure we will get to fly soon!
See you out there!!!!!
