Lakes Charity Classic 09 'The Final Countdown'

Post by gordie »

As spring slowly shrugs of its winter coat and our thoughts turn to the summer ahead, the time of year comes around for the U.K.'s if not the worlds greatest free flying event.... 'The 2009 Lakes Charity Classic' over the weekend of the 5/6/7 June

The CSC committee have been working flat out since last year to continue to evolve this fantastic event into and even more special experience. Those of you who have attended previous events will by now know that us canny Cumbrians don't miss a trick when it comes to organising a great event for you and your families, for those that have never been then this is your chance not to miss the U.K.'s friendliest free flying event of the summer. The now well established base will be the fields on the shores of Buttermere, with out doubt one of the most beautiful camps site in the whole of the U.K.

After the two days of xc competition and coaching the fun moves up a gear which will commence around 5 p.m. on Saturday, with the start of the 'Buttermere Bash' consisting of various aviation treats. It is rumoured that Keswick's Mayor will pop by in his magnificent Gyroplane to open the bash, after which the invited speed flyers and acro pilots will be transported by chopper to a high take off above the lake. This years 'British Acro Championship' promises to be the best ever with some of the worlds top acro pilots in attendance and the level being moved up again with the prospect of another first for the U.K. Last year we witnessed tumbling and all I will say at this moment is we are going at seeing some high precision moves ' where the thrills don't stop - watch this space! Once the acro pilots are all back to earth safely, The live music will kick in to entertain and provide an amazing night of music and frivolity that only your friendly Cumbrians can muster. This year we have five, yes five bands coming to entertain us, they are all top N.E. bands, some already being quite famous (including Beth Jeans Houghton amongst others) We have with out doubt exceeded any previous LCC line up and this will be an amazing night of music and dancing. After the bands are worn out our funky DJ's will keep the party bopping to around 2 a.m. So even if the weather is crap (which it never is for the LCC) we have a great line up and huge marquees to keep you entertained like never before. Our well stoked licensed bar will keep you refreshed with 2000 pints of locally brewed ale including our own now famous specially made 'Thirst Flight' paragliding ale, as well as wine, vodka, soft drinks e.t.c.

Please all we need now is you!, so please pack your tent, bring your friends and families and help us to turn what promises the be the best LCC and Buttermere Bash so far into greatest free flying event of 2009 and its all for charity, if you miss it you will never forgive yourself and we won't forgive you either!

This is a ticket entry event -For further details: http://cumbriasoaringclub.co.uk/lcc/CSC_LCCMain.php

LCC 2009

Post by GlennP »

I've noticed a few of the NHPC names on the comps list for the LCC.

Is anyone travelling over in convoy or lift sharing for this ?

I'm gonna go over on Thursday after work, well that's the plan, so I'm ready for Friday.

I've got a large family tent. Plenty of room if anyone is short of a tent/camper.

Cheers,

Glenn

not sure what to do just yet 1 the campervan is the choice to slep in with shower toilet fridge and all the comforts of home. though then there is the nice 8 seater that is even better for retrieves and getting bout the lanes. so not sure what i am doing reguarding vehichles. will decide closer the time and see wether there is a car share where someone takes the 8 seater over and we all share the van through the day.

cheers gary

I'm off work week before the LCC so I hope to go to the lakes early in the week, depending on the weather, probably be based around the Keswick area.

I'm heading over Thursday after work but will be traveling down south on Sunday or Saturday night.
Are we having club tactics, working together in the B comp or is it every one for themselves?
Also, in the gallery for the past 2 years there are pictures of serious looking people with pen and paper in hand, is there anything us newbies should know about?
Any information gratefully accepted.
Cheers
Jim

Not to be mean though, if the weather's good I hope you have a great day! (Damn teachers with the 9-3 jobs and all them holidays, and you just can't get the time when you need it  )
See you out there!!!!!

This will be my first so hope to see you all there to support the more experienced NHPC competitors - I could do with the coaching on offer too!

Not sure if I can make the event myself but I would be willing to put together a talk regarding competition flying if anyone is interested.
Monday and Wednesday evenings are best for me.

Not pilots

Post by ron freeman »

Sorry Gordie not for me ! these are not pilots they are adrenaline junkies and quite a few them have a very short life span...

You and I work hard to train students to become safe pilots with a good attitude ie not endangering themselves or anyone else !

If someone wants to fly like a nutter, fair enough its their choice.. let them find there own hill.. in the middle of nowhere.. and let them get on with it.

The trouble with this they will probably not bother to do it because nobody will be around to watch them !

You can't please all the people all the time! I think you and me just come from different generations Ron, I admire people who can push their own limits and their chosen sport forward. I get my kicks watching awesome exhibitions of skill shown by guys like these, either on youtube or the rare oppurtunity to see them in the flesh at the LCC in front of there adoring audience. You get your kicks displaying your skill by jumping of a pier in front of a load of people, I supsect you would not do this if there was nobody watching.

Its all about what ever floats your boat and our Swiz friends float mine, and hopefully everyone else who choses to come and enjoy the LCC.

How awful. The thought of all that lovely hair going to waste.
And that second guy, if he's not careful he'll get tangled up in his red ribbon.

I think you are right about different generation Gordie, I used to love throwing my wing all over the place when I was on the hill myself in the middle of nowhere... it dosen't take long to realise when you have a crowd watching you start to push your limits... experience is a wonderful thing.

What ever floats yer boat (in moderation) and hope everything goes well.
