Post by gary stenhouse »

well looking at the forecast for sunday i think there is a good chance of been able to hold some kind of hg comp. let me know what you think as i will be out any way and i think there is a good chance that there will be quite a few others out as welll.

so how about it as i am sure if the direction is right we may have a high cup nick cafe run on

That's a great task and not easy.

look with all of this response i do not think we will be able to get everyone on the hill at the same time.
if you would like i will wet your whistle and put on the imfanous flight from 2 years ago where i went through airspace but you do get to see how the whole ridge works.

not looking to make any think to hard so lets just go for the high cup nick to the cafe now as a declared flight and lets hope someone will do it. i think with 2 ridgids out then ant thing could happen.

cheers gary i do think we may well be on for a good day on sunday with hg and paragliding.

High Cup Nick Hartside Cafe run

Post by John Wallis »

Gary I don't think anyone has done this run end to end. I know a while ago Pete Hargreaves (XC God) and a few Northumbrians (Maltby being one of them) flew from High Cap to High Cup Nick and back. Hopefully there should be a photo below to give pilots some idea. It's defo a good task in the right conditions.

I know we've talked about flying over the ranges before (on Sunday afternoon when it’s ok) and agreed it’s not advisable, I think this was largely due to the fact we can’t be sure to clear the danger area. But how about just doing the ridge run south to Brough rather than over the back? It’s about 25km from high cap. Any thoughts?

i will put my flight up and you will see the wind was west south west 26km in the air so windy and once past high cup nick there is no chance of going down. getting to high cup nick is the hard part.

High Cup Nick is just on the edge of the danger area so an out and return as far as that would be OK. Any further south through it even with permission does leave the possibility of landing out in the area and the possibility of standing on something that could blow your legs off or worse. It is a tempting prospect but is it worth it? My opinion probably not.

at the moment it could be looking quite good for pg as well though it may get a bit windy later in the day. i think if the wind direction is crrect and we have a bit of thermal then i do not see why certainly the sheep pens cafe and say goal field to finish. to be fair competition is not the issue its more like the more hg on the hill the more fun it is and the more you are likely to push yourself.

my plans are to be there by 11 am as i would like to have a nice relaxed days flying and enjoy the day without being rushed.

Flew from High Cap down to the other side of High Cup Nick, over the back past Cauldron Snout landing south of High Force. John Watson came and picketed me up
A bountiful flight. That is another way two go!

Hi all

It is very overcast at Warwick Bridge and very windy at present. Stuart says the 100 ft leafless tress by the house are bending in the wind to at least half their height and the seagulls have their tips in. It might die down later.
