well how did the the east west chalenge go

it seems that all floks got there feet off the ground from semmerwater to east hill to blease fell and scales but who fllew the furthest?

well i managed 30 minutes untill the wind switched off seemed to come over the back and had to land in the football field. strange as 2 minutes prior there was plenty of lift and was able to fly out front without much height lossthen bang. i was on the ridge in 2ms sink and just made the pitch. still it was a nice boat about but unfortunately i think the club comp was cancelled on the sunday due to ever changing wind.

looks like barking was the place to be on the saturday as there i a 20k xc in from over there.

well we need to here all about hughy lewis

Great to see all you mad Geordies and clan over here this weekend. Flying was not epic, but hay in the great scheme of this summer it was most pleasant. Infact as you all probably saw I had one, if not the best teaching weekend so far this year. Must strap a GPS on my students next time and they could easily beat the 'Barkin Boys" multiple turn point flights by miles

Sorry I did not make it down to your 'commune', but 10 hours of teaching and a couple in the pub finished me off on Saturday night.

Many thanks everybody for the kind gesture in the bottle of wine, it was most satisfactory this evening

The farmer for Latrigg I am sure will be delighted with his when I deliver it next week. Thank you again, little gestures like this go a long way with our generous farmers.

Well this was a great weekend not so much for the flying although there was some it will be remembered for the camaraderie of the NHPC lads and lases. The Myserscousers who got the whole thing off the ground on what looked an iffy forecast which turned out glorious, positive people causing a positive reaction. The Miskins taking a collection for wine for the farmers, Ron Don bringing a million logs for the camp fire how nice was that, Steve Trewick with his flying lanterns taking off into the clear night sky, Ali and Faye turning up with Lily rose, Anto with his frying pan and fillet steak timed to perfection, plus Anto with his guitar and the dulcet tones of Neil Smith drowning out the Trafford camp site. Then there was the gay boy Keithley who mocked me for having a cup of tea at 23.00 shouting he would have no bother climbing the hill the next day...Yeah right. The youngest member of the club moaning he didn't know any of the songs and we were old gits then proceeded to honk up most of the night....The old gits still managed the climb up Scales even if me and Neil felt it we did it.....Where was Colin....I'm going home I don't want to fly I don't feel well....

Mind you been there myself a few times. Also it was good to see the whole club sharing cars and loading up pilots and kit to keep the numbers down, it really worked out a treat.Thanks to Jan and Chris for their gazebo and preparing the campsite locals and the owners for the Geordie invasion. This campsite (The Trafford Caravan and Camping Park) are well worth using and very nice people too.

Who next ahh yes the irrepressible Gordie Oliver was as helpful as ever and even set up and judged the spot landing at the bottom of Lattrigg. Keeping us right were was best to go and even giving us a lift back up the hill and to top that he had a karaoke machine in his vehicle which we all sang Desperado to (Watch this space for the video

) Many thanks for your hospitality Gordie you really are top bloke.

We never got a proper result at the end of 2 days flying so we're gonna do it all again soon...Maybe not the BBQ but the comp.

Well done to Paul and Kay for their enthusiasm for making this happen and producing so many happy faces and a memorable weekend.

Really sorry to have missed what seems like yet another great NHPC night out!

I managed to wend my way to East Hill today, and it came up with its usual excellent conditions......

Wind of to the South, so your into wind leg was 5/10k, and the downwind leg over 40 k...... but not much lift, as the wind was sliding along the hill rather than creating lift. Quite scary skimming the heather at a couple of feet at 25 mph...

I gave up early, it might have got better, but I doubt it.....

Did I mention the gray clagged in sky?

Definite autumnal feel in the air?

The West definitely won

Thanks to all the guys and gals who turned out and made an average weekend into something quite special. That is why the NHPC is such a belting club over the two days we must have had over 30 members joining us. When's the next one?

The singing sounded great - even though my guitar playing was compromised somewhat by a bottle of wine and six cans of stella. God knows how I felt OKish on Sunday.

of the morning giving seventy three versions of ‘’ My Father Knew Lloyd George'' (I think it was that but I had my fingers in my ears at the time !)

Might have just passed CP..But the Drinkers Badge is yet to come...Never be deceived by the genteele manner of the Older & Wiser !

A cuppa at 2300 hrs often does the trick !!!
Actually we were all delighted to see you Colin & the familly..Make sure you All come for the Whole weekend to the next NHPC Bash.

Just a quickie to say What a great time Lovely DRY weather and a bit of flying..We sure did need it after our summer !
I Think the Amber light warning system seems to work well ..So eyes peeled on the forcasts you never know we might manage to squeeze another weekend in before the year is out..
East Or West ..Where Ever Is Best......

Aye, a grand weekend affair, most surprised no one has mentioned the pink tent, the baby feeding or Anto's fetish for clean carpets, but there we go, so much happened!
Great to be with you all, enthusiastic as ever.
Did the two trainees get signed off on Sunday? If so, well done lads and welcome to the band of 'forever hopefuls' and many years parawaiting and paratalking. If you didn't I'm sure it won't be long.
Big thanks to Gordie and the CSA for putting up with the invasion, I'm sure we will be as accommodating when you get fed up flying your hills and want to head east!

Although we only managed to join you all on sunday afternoon, after recieving a glowing weather report we arrived to grey and overcast skys. But the waiting around all paid of when the condition became soarable on Latrigg late in the day and I had almost an hour flying. That make two flying weekends in a row. EPIC!!! Thanks to all who made the weekend possible sorry I missed the bbq hopefully I'll make the next one.

Sorry I did'nt make it to the lakes, it sounds like you had a grand time.
I went for a look at Hownam but it was just a tad windy and a bit clagged in.
So I went to east hill. (groan)
My flytec says I had no less than 15 flights, the longest of which was just over 10 mins, I guess it was bit scratchy.
Best bit was switching the vario off and flying up alongside some of the local birdlife.

Took a wee drive to deliver the bottle of wine to Derrick Scriminger the Latrigg farmer today, well what should of been a simple task turned into quite an epic.

Derrick lives at Lonscale farm situated in the little valley hidden behind Latrigg, a beautiful and quiet spot. It is accessed by single track road from Keswick or Threlkeld with the last mile being a bumpy dirt track which cuts across a scarily steep slope as it winds itself up to the farm. On leaving Keswick I was surprised to see the tarmac road was in a hell of a state, mud everywhere which had been dragged off the bankings by a number of over sized vehicles. Presumed it must of been tractors with big trailers taking crop back to the farm. After slipping my way along I was glad to get onto the somewhat grippier muddy dirt track. However almost at the end I met a car coming the other way, presuming the lady must of been Derrick Mrs and not wanting to cause to much disruption as to of reversed back would of been a 500 yard leap of faith for either of us, I slapped my truck up onto the banking but failed to see the culvert hidden under my bonnet and down my truck went hanging on its front axle in the ditch, completely blocking the track.

The lady and I jumped out of our vehicles and met each other with loads of apologises. Turned out she was actually a Producer for BBC One Man and His Dog which are filming at Derricks farm over the next 2 days, this explained all the mud! Tons of infrastructure had been dragged up to the farm the day before, in far to bigger trucks then should of been used.

To cut a long story short, we reversed up to the farm in her car with me taking over the steering after a couple of yards as we nearly disappeared over the edge. I spent the next 10 minutes trying to find Derrick amounts the hordes of people busy in the mammoth Holly Wood production which this little t.v. program requires. On finding him he was delighted with the bottle of wine and wanted me to pass on his appreciation. Luckily we got my truck out with a tug off his lads quad bike and all was well.

So keep your eye out for the show when it comes out and you can tell all your mates that you've flown there (and know a 'plonker' who got his truck stuck and nearly stopped the show

)

Sorry Ronnie, but East Hill was never ever going to be good on Sunday. If you consider a 10 min scratch to be " a very nice Evening" then it perhaps puts your views on the Cheviots in general into context....

According to Dave Hume tonight he said he flew over East Hill on his microlight and he could see people standing around but it was grey and grim.
