Talking to Mr Ridley at Crossfell tonight to inform him the comp was off due to the weather. He explained they had had the Helm wind blowing for several days creating all sorts of problems, with trees up rooted, trees broken, power lines down etc etc if you go onto XC weather and look at Warcop you will see live evidence of what the Helm wind can do on the Crossfell range. http://www.xcweather.co.uk/30m/GB/wind.gif
It's reading around 57 mph tonight and things have died down a bit. All very interesting met stuff.

Never heard of this before, but it seems to be relatively 'famous' as it's the only named wind in Britain.
See http://www.freewebs.com/mallerstang/visit2.html for a picture of the effect at Mallerstang.

I've Seen the Helm Bar, its awesome, and as you say John It does a lot of damage. I wonder if anyone has flown it in a sailplane!
