Hi Steve,
I'm contacting you with reference to the Grasmere Show. I spoke to one of your members yesterday in Buttermere (didn't catch his name ) and he suggested I sent this proposal to your club so it can be discussed at your next meeting (Wednesday I believe.
For the last couple of years the CSC has taken part in the Grasmere Show. As CAA regs prevent us putting on a flying display we have run the day as a very informal accuracy competition. The key ingredient is the informality. We launch from the fell side but there is no compulsion to land until you want to! So if it is soarable, as it was last year, competitors can have a boat about, admire the view then when ready land in a massive field near the target. We divide it into 2 classes. A group have more airtime than the B group. The division is arbitary, ie. we split the groups roughly equally.
Basically it is a great day out flying legally in one of the most beautiful valleys with the bonus of the Grasmere Show to entertain the family and provide the beer when flying ends. I've attached a copy of last year's flyer (NB different date)
The Grasmere Show organisers are keen to push paragliding as a Lakes mountain activity and want to expand the part paragliding plays in the show. I've suggested that we have a team event, Cumbria V Northumberland. Again very informal. Between us we decide the rules, probably best 4 or 5 in each Club to count. The show is putting up £200 for prizes. We could get a shield if you agree to make it an annual event.
Can you put it to your members and if you agree let me know who to deal with. Just to emphasise, it is a good flying day with a difference.
Hope you can get involved,
Chris
