Wouldnt be able to get there till 1430 hrs so thats me out.
The club comp being the club comp the task doesnt want to be too difficult as we have a good few low airtime pilots which im sure would like to join in. Im sure that having read that Gary thinks that High Cup Nick is just possible may lead the newbies to think "well i dont have a chance"
Just a thought

Have a Portsmouth yardstick on better wings. As they do in sailing.

Mmmmm, wind looks ok,,,,but,,,,,,at the moment cloudbase looks like a bit of an issue.
Hope I'm wrong!
There's a grid set out infront of XFell that could be used in conjunction with an out and return or open xc to give lower airtime pilots a chance to gain a good position flying around the hill and pushing out front. Put a time limit on things and it brings into play the choice of the out and return/open xc or fly the grid, or you make the choice before take off.

With all the good flights from the Cheviots recently why not a club comp at Hownam law ? I can't take part working but the results would be good reading.

I don't want to step on any toes, but, would be a great opportunity to run a coaching session for the newer pilots and knock off tasks for those wanting to attain their pilot rating.
Just a thought....any takers?

Gary excellent choice of task it has been done on hang gliders before a long time ago (Maltby)
Brian great idea using the upwind grid for pilots who do not want to try the main task
Ali be great to see you there and also a good time for others the get some tasks signed off.
Ronnie Cross Fell will suit a greater number of pilots with varying abilities Hownam can be tricky in places.
I can't see why those who turn up later can't do the tasks too? We'll be going of GPS file and time so I can't see that being a problem, I mean it's not the pre worlds just a good old fun comp.
And yes a meal and a drink afterwards like the old days

Sounds like a good plan coming together
who's the task director John, Brian or Ali or all three or can we watch them fight over it on the hill
joking aside some good ideas coming forward
can we try and get as many new members out as possible so if your reading this keep an eye on this page for more details nearer the time or get in touch with any of the coaches.
Dont be shy come and fly

I think the task Gary set is as good as any and well worth a shot. I'm hoping Chris Foz might make the turn points for our GPS to upload to. I've had a go at making the task with High Cup Nick as the start flying from High Cap second TP is the radar masts and finish is High Cap. This can be viewed on Chris' Northumbrian XC site.
I don't think we need anyone in charge we agree the task and fly it, down load it at the end of the day and see who was the quickest.
Will that work do you think??

Hi Ali,
Certainly would be up for some task sign offs re getting a pilot rating.
so count me in.
Btw - Stayed at the Fox Inn Campsite, Ousby a month or so ago, very friendly down to earth place under new management and the new owner is definitely keen to assist with with any flying do's etc
