xcsoar on android devices samsung amazing
well big thanks to martin and his patience today stting up my Samsung tab 2. I thought it was a bit big but it fits fine on my impress 3 harness and the features make setting up triangles the xc planner and then downloading it and dropping into the Samsung. I have some 25k plus 100k triangles for cross fell as well as blease.
checkit out as airspace and evry feature is mind blowing for free software.
cheers gary

A DIY alternative is the NOOK (e-ink)) simple touch @ £59 + a NMEA GPS

Muuhhhaaaaa. He's ours now all ours he drank from the Lion and Lamb chalice and is now a convert. Bill both Gary and Lloyd gave us a great insight to the use of androids and airspace Lloyd in particular is very knowledgeable looks like its the way to go. My only concern was how good are they to read in direct sunlight having said that they are out there being used now. The Samsung only costs £158 the software is free to download and the system Lloyd uses is even cheaper but you need to link it with a GPS watch this space
Buy a Samsung telly and you get one free
It's sat in the cupboard for the last 6 months because I didn't like it. Don't think the craze will last long though, my guess is the screen will last one trip in your harness in the back of the car before its broken.

See you out there!!!!!

ideas ?
I'm always up for new gadgets but if you need to connect to a GPS.. why not just use your GPS ? they are pretty good.
It would be very interesting to have an XC comp just using a helmet beep only vario and your map on your lap and see who does the buisness

Hi Ron that's the device Lloyd was showing us (Photo in link below) it only costs about £50 ish and the screen is much bigger and easier to use. It's also got a monochrome screen and works very well in direct sunlight. The one Gary has is the Samsung and that works direct.I'm always up for new gadgets but if you need to connect to a GPS.. why not just use your GPS ? they are pretty good.

So Brian
How much do you want for it then!
