Kendal mountain festival free flight evening

Post by AlastairW »

Next Wednesday 15th November:

Kendal Mountain Festival Free Flight Session
Sponsored by Ozone and premiering Security in Flight II.

7:30PM at Rheged on the 15th November 2012

The now hugely popular Free-Flight Session moves back to its roots in the north of the county, the hub of Paragliding and Hang Gliding in Cumbria. The lakes was the only place Jocky wanted to release his latest film, in fact the opening sequence of Security in Flight II is in the lakes because he wants to show the world where he lives and how good Cumbria is for flying, which his is backed up by Mike Cavanagh's informative and visual XC talk.

The night is packed with some of the latest flying films from around the world, from flying in Cumbria to flying in the Himalayas and many places in between. All in the stunning Rheged venue with its huge screen for the extra wow factor.

Jocky will present the first ever showing of his superb new 'Security in Flight II' with unseen behind the scenes insights and footage from this 2 year project. Plus Mike Cavanagh is going to talk us through some his favourite XC routes in the mountains of Britain and give us you tips on XC flying and preparation, then Ed Ewing is talking on the best stories in XC mag over the last year, which includes some huge achievements and stunning photography. In amongst the talks will be some amazing short flying films from adventurers and film makers from around the world, finishing with the incredible Karakoram Highway film.

During the break there will be a small raffle of prizes including and tandem XC flight with Jocky, some DVD's, some Ozone goodies, and XC mag subscriptions, so it is likely you will be going away with a lot more than you came with, in knowledge, if not goodies.

As a way of saying thanks to all the local pilots, and to those who attend and support the event, Jocky is offering a special price of £25 for Security in Flight II.

It is like that classic XC day, you just have to be there!

So here's the outline program of the night-

19:30 Start
Film: Light Line (5mins)
Film: Tunisian Dual Ride (6mins)
Jocky Presenting - Security In Flight (40mins)
Film: Wanna Ride (4mins)
Interval at Circa 20:30
Film: Séquence (10mins)
Mike Cavanagh presents - UKXC (30 mins)
Ed Ewing XC Mag 25 minutes of the news stories of the year from around the globe
Fikm: KarakoramHighway (41 mins)
22:00 END
It is sad to measure your life in terms of hours flown...... but even sadder not to.........

Well worth the journey

We've also got tickets to see Will Gadd Kendal 17th Nov...
The Kendal Mountain Festival really is a great way to fill a Dark Usually Wet November weekend ..
Some might call Will an over-achiever, others merely a man that’s having a good time.

Here’s a list of just some of his achievements: Establishing the hardest mixed ice climbing lines in the world. Setting the world distance record for paragliding. Twice. Kayaking down dozens of first ascents across North America. Winning the Canadian National Sport-Climbing Championships. Four times. Winning three gold medals at the X Games. And the Ice Climbing World Cup. Winning the US and Canadian Paragliding Nationals. Flying a paramotor across the USA. First one-day ascent of the tallest mountain in the Canadian Rockies, Mt. Robson. Solo. Climbing ‘the hardest ice route in the world’, Helmcken Falls in Canada with compadre Tim Emmett. Will’s presentation is called Survival Strategies for High-Risk situations; "It's basically about tools for survival in the mountains and life that I've learned the both the fun and the hard way...”

Leo Holding, Jocky Mike Cav...Some AMAZING films

It was a great night at the opening event of the Kendal mountain film festival.

The show included the premier of security in flight 2, Jocky sander sons latest film, and as Mad Dog himself said, there were some bits you just had to look away from.

The highlight for me was the rate of chewing gum.

Those who were there will know, but it was a pretty terrifying cascade over the beach at OD, with the acro pilot eventually recovering and looking oh so cool. - except for the fact that his jaw was now going ten to the dozen on his gum!

Well worth it just for that shot.
