Wednesday Meeting/forum
Hi All
with regards to the meeting tomorrow just thought we'd cover a few site selection issues that may help us get the most out of the rest of the season and suss out some of the benefits and drawbacks of some of the sites we fly.
The session will be aimed at pilots of all ability and may include;
Safety issues
Site topography and its affect on wind/airflow
Airspace
Micro-meteorology
XC potential
Could people bring an airmap if they have one and those who are considering the P or 'AP' exam bring their log books.
Will internet access and projector be available?
Ali

I was enjoying Ali's chat until I went to pay my bar bill and they told me the card machine wasn't working hence I had to search the streets of Heaton to find a cash machine and got a soaking.
Would it be worth running the talk again when we get the room back say next meeting? Ali? You did well hosting it under an umbrella

Thanks also to Ali for organising
I learnt a lot but still have loads of questions
e.g. how do you tell a decaying cloud from an active one for example ?!?
Anyone interested in buying air maps

clouds
Generally small cummulus clouds last for around 15-20mins if they have broken away from their ground source ! (non column) so watch your cloud and see what happens ! you must study cummulus cloud every day to get a feel for it.Henry wrote:I learnt a lot but still have loads of questions

You will find the edges and the base of the cloud become raggy and less defined + the dark base becomes much lighter (its arse drops out !)
cheers
Maximise your time & dosh do both Hanggliding & Paragliding

I'm still trying to get that right Henry I suppose it's not too hard standing on the hill looking at the sky as you can actually see new ones forming and growing but when your in the air I find it harder to judge what's active and what's not if the cloud looks very grey it's on the way out usually nice and white it's still relatively fresh. Having said that I've flown to grey clouds and they've worked well so the answer is I'm still not sure. Ali will have a better answer I'm sure.
