Save your breath Gary. These all singin all dancin phones will never catch on. What's wrong with the phone box on the end of the street? £2.79 for a gps why I don't spend that on food for a week.
Isn't the phone about a grand then £200 a month after that?

phones
I'll give you the details Ron.
A) Walk down any high street
B) Stop outside a shop with small oblongs in the window and the figures O and 2 on the sign.
C) Walk in and present yourself to a sales representative then walkout with phone, Gps, web browser, camera in a little plastic bag after giving you bank details to the nice man.
It's as easy as ABC Ron.

Colin you and ron keep bleating on about how expensive they are. Classic cases of target fixation.
So you paid £60 for your phone and you reckon £10 a month in calls. Well you must be pay as you go because there is no current contract for free calls and texts for £10/month. Plus the fact you pay a large premium for talktime on payg and texts can be as much as 10p each.
In that case you must have A) no mates or B) a bt phone which again costs at least £10/ month plus calls. Add another few quid for broadband and the cost of a laptop on top of that. Even if you get a free laptop you still pay £10-15/month for mobile broadband with a 3gb limit. iPhone= unlimited.
Then I bet if that's not the case you've got Sky with broadband. Not cheap at all then add at least £50 for a crappy old garmin gps12 for your gps with no moving map ( google and os on iPhone ) oh and have you got a sat nav in your car? Yeah add the cost of that aswell as the iPhone does that.
So in total it costs far far more for that lot plus I don't need all the USB interface leads and software.
As I said if you look at things rationally for what you get it's a cheap deal.

Glen..
Glen, I remember you telling Gary that your new iphone only cost £100 which we all know now was a joke... they actually cost around £1200 for a 24 month contract ! which I think is very expensive for what they do.
I also fly with as you say 'a crappy old garmin 12' this fine instrument does me proud and is more than fit for the job it needs to do, you don't need nice coloured maps, they just look nice...
Pilots should spend more money on a good quality vario which seems to be overlooked more and more these days

So what your saying glenn is i should get rid of my home pc and the house phone and my internet sell my garmin 12 which only cost £30 and buy an i Phone sounds sensible but then i will be surfing the net on a what 4" screen instead of a 19" the wife and kids are going to take the phone of me everytime they want to use the net and the wife has to follow me everywhere so she can use my phone. oh and what about the fact the iphone lasts no where near as long as the garmin and can you actually submit an official track log to a competition with the iphone.
Your talkin shit glenn it just doesnt make sense.
If gadgets are your thing fine and its not that i dont have any friends I just dont like using the phone never have and hate the fact that people can reach me anywhere.
All the things on the iphone are none essential basically a toy.

Bleating
Hey hey hey we re getting back to the good old days of name calling, sarcasm and verbal abuse on the nhpc forum. It's been a while. It's great to see the iPhone debate has generated the largest number of hits on here this year. It gives all those anonymous users something to look at now all our incidents are hidden away in the private section.
Just what we needed, a bit of the " your talkin shit " sensationalism sent from a living room after a few litres of merrydown.
Great attitude from the club sectretary.

Obviousl O2 haven't managed to infultrate the wild north yet, but if you travel slightly to the south and venture into the township of Blyth the sparkley new shopping centre proudly exhibits an O2 shop, which incidentally is open on a Sunday.
Now, depending on which iphone you want and which contract you are currently on and which contract you want to go onto, I beleive you can twist their arms into giving you an iphone for around £85. Ok, the contract may be a little more expensive, but the cord on the iphone does stretch a little further than the curly one on your house phone.
Why havn't I got one yet? Because I can't get the upgrade until 1st January, when I suspect I will get one free with my next contract like I got the last one, (because I've been with O2 for years, they call it loyalty rewards).
So there you go, cut the cord on the old phone and take it in, they may even give you some money for it.
Go on, you know you want to.
Oh,,,,it's £30 a month for the contract, most people pay at least £15, so I don't think it's that bad when you concider what else you are getting, free internet access and all those apps!

i have never said it is not expensive, it is which ever way you look at it. it is a toy that you buy if you can afford to cash not tick or the never never. if more people accepted that they can't afford something rather than just buying it and seeing what happens the country would not be in the state it is.
cheers gary
