It's official the country is in recession, but its also offical that we are having the best winter in the Lakes for many years. Days of snow showers and strong winds have led to full cover above aorund 450m with drifts of 1m or more common place especially on north and east aspects. Decent lines have opened up on all the fells above 500m if one is willing to earn one's turns. Personaly I could'ne give a monkeys whats happening to my pension plan or the euro, we got snow every where and I am one happy skint bunny
Had 4 days skiing and snow kiting this week, Monday on some wee hills called Little Cockup and Great Cockup, Tuesday up on Raise at the tow, Wednesday Snow Kiting on the Fells above the Buttermere Valley and today here's the report (sorry about the very poor Mobile phone photos, the colours correct!)
Had a great windy day on the fells on Saturday, wind around 30-40 m.p.h. and easly achieving speeds in excess of this on the kites, hence i was a bit suprised to here people had been flying..... take care guys at this time of year as if your not fully on your game you may/will be caught out!
Anyway here is a wee vid I spliced together from some footage a mate shot of us:
