East Hill

Nice boat around on East hill tonight. Got there for 17.30 and left around 20.00 Maltby, Smith, Hunter, and one other? Very pleasant apart from getting tied in knots (Thanks for the help Dave)

Also managed a flight at the coast tonight at Horden after work. Arrived at about 7pm took off with the wind well off to the south and the lift good. I went for a swift flight down to Seaham soaring the rocks at the harbour till Col drove along to pick me up. Landed in sight of adsa, for a spot of shopping and home by 8.30pm for an asda take away special. What could be better after a long hard day at work, possibly another day flying tommorow.

I was speaking metaphorically Ron. Maybe metaphors haven't reached Newbiggin yet?

Boat around sums it up perfectly, as this is all your going to get at east hill. I have had many many loverly boats about East hill and in all types of conditions.

It has a very strange fonomen of being a hill that offers no thermic activity that you can work with. Why this would be? I dont know.... But it is a fact!

169 flights submited to the XC league by nearly every member of the club over 3 years from East Hill. The best flight from this....... 3.9 km !

East hill is what it is, a handy little site for a little boat about to get your feet of the ground.

I agree East hill is predominatly (that a big word for a newbiggin lad !) a sea breeze site, but it does have its day now and then. I have witnessed many pilots HG's & PG's achieve good height gains on this site but have not gone XC.. why ?

Our club membership at the moment has a lot of inexperienced club pilot and are still learning to use thermals, or are not to bothered about going XC...

In the last two years there has been many a good day for XC on all of our sites but not many have gone over the back...

Very valid point, and I would say if you can get to work with the thin therms that come form east hill you will be well versed to do well anywhere.
