RECKLESS BEHAVIOUR!!!

I can't believe the Cavalier approach taken to SIV within this club. Completing instability manoeuvres at a height of 400ft at High cap is the sort of behaviour that will give this club a bad name and to think that because one reckless individual carried out such manoeuvres other NHPC members should...

Neil, Ali all club members

I've asked Gary if I can use his flight/accident as a subject for discussion on safe flying at the next club meeting. what do you think....it may take a while and we would need a Google earth thingy.

Neil I respect Gary's flying ability but would still like to 'kick him when he's down, purely because he's ginger. However, I do have one question for the two of you, and maybe Fingers and Miller as well,...How did the air feel prior to Gary's accident? Actually two questions. Is there something abo...

John there are several different scenarios, in regards to thermic activity and glider control, that can be applied to your query and each scenario would beg a different response. However, the general advice that Ausie Steve gave you, in respect of being firm with the glider when it is in front and a...

A good number of years ago I found myself in a very similar situation on Souther. A great hangy pilot (Chris Scammel) went on to take some of the most spetacular photos that I have ever seen of the lakes (these were published in Skywings last year, I think), never have I ever yearned to be able to f...

Just to piss us all off

Just to piss all the NHPC weekend pilots off I thought I'd draw your attention to a flight done by Marra (Martin Sandwith) this weekend (check out the link below). When we were all bashing up and down the coast he was 6500 up. Marra is a up and coming pilot who making a good name for himself across ...

Good question Ron It seems to have some definite advantages but at the moment the paragliding fraternity seems to have stuck with the DHV......mainly due to political reasons. The reason why DHV is more useful is not necessarily because it is better but because it is more widely used, it would be di...

I don't know but......

Neil choosing the right glider to fly is a very subjective affair, some like a wing that gives a lot of feedback whilst others would see the same wing as being 'twitchy', for instance. The ideal solution would be to fly all the gliders you are considering back to back, i.e. on the same hill on the s...

Weekend flying and Pilot tasks

Hi all providing the weather permits, this weekend may be an opportunity to sign off those pesky tasks needed for pilot rating. Obviously, I'll drop a message on the board as to where I'm intending to fly closer to the time, but, please remember to bring alonog your BHPA task book. cheers Ali 077207...

John a lot of the instrument mounting thing is down to where on the harness you put it. It is difficult to test things just by hanging in your harness as it won't be loaded in the same way as if in flight, I also remember Supair harnesses being a bit of a fanny to attach things to. Best thing to do ...

Defined

Hi folks There seems to be quiet a lot of interest in defined flights, especially triangles, at the moment and quite a few differing ideas about how they should be done. Well, not wanting to left out, here’s my bit I hope it is of some value. Personally I think the most important attribute a pilot n...
