Great night had by all I would say - thanks to you both for putting us all up and taking the risk of grief from the neighbours although I would say we kept them entertained too. Need to get those hot air balloons sorted for next time though. P.S. Was that what we had in mind when someone suggested t...

Cyprus

Thanks but I am set for South - Limassol area. Have looked at the extremesportscafe website and see a few NOVICE FRIENDLY sites within a short drive and am looking toward hiring a Fiesta (11 days £200). What's the score with turning up wing in hand wanting to fly over on Cyprus? I have tried emailin...

Glider as flight baggage

Had no problems taking my wing as luggage a few years back but wondered if any of you hardened jet setters have experienced difficulty in doing so recently. I'm set for Cyprus in July and intended traveling light - wearing my boots & packing my crocs. Have the more stringent security measures re...

Confused here

I take it the sites stating RED - CLOSED are only due to the lambing as stated also.

Can I fly Hepburn Wood and East Hill this weekend - weather permitting?

Insurance advice

I am looking to take the wing to Cyprus in July and wondered if anyone could recommend a good insurance policy to cover me for say 7 consecutive days. Does anyone rate Sportguard for example - gold policy is around £120!!! is this the going rate?

Notams

Last Friday I logged a NOTAM for Hepburn Woods and was told it was not necessary for an individual, just parties of 5 or more and whether I still wished to go ahead - I continued to log the NOTAM anyhow as for all I know another 4 people may have arrived by the time I was ready to take off. This was...

Foot & Mouth

Just heard that a new incident has been confirmed in Surrey - any news on the state of our area? I would be sure to seek advice from our site contacts regarding their wishes prior to accessing their land.

Does anyone do a mute version of the vario without that annoying bleep and perhaps vibrates as you fall/climb? Once I get the cash (or write my letter to Santi) I would like to fly in peace and quiet? (I'm not averse to a bit of vibration though!) :yum:

Thanks for sharing that with us Terry and I agree with John re Billy.

I did hang on til the bitter end and was rewarded with a sunny end to the day and a couple of scratchy flights ending in small walkups but no bracken! Left site at 19:00 with nil wind.

Looking good Mikey (rulz) . A couple of thoughts occurred:-

Will we be able to edit the mapping or need to introduce more detailed sketch attachments for take off/landing spots, preferred parking and footpaths?

Will it be possible to view sites according to the likely wind direction?

Looks a bit gusty down there but fairer over the course of the weekend.

I might risk staying up North with more known West-South sites and try Old Bewick out instead. I've not flown there either but it looks really good.

East Coast

Had a look at Druridge Bay when blown out one weekend, it has some fair sized continuous dunes but I suspect there may be hazardous rotor inland of them. Know of any reasonable sites up the beautiful North East coast I could safely try Ron? What is Bamburgh like? Its just a long haul from Ingram to ...

That said I was a little deterred on Saturday after witnessing that dumping onto the hilltop, any news on how he is and what went wrong?

Not so deterred that it stopped me having an hour way up high on Sunday mind you - best flight yet! Still some way to go before I can ditch the ribbon though.
