Online Sites Guide
This is just a quick note to let the club know that the on-line sites guide has just moved to a new home (not that you would notice!). This is due to the fact that I am taking a step back from the sport so it doesn't make sense that I continue to manage it. Instead Anto has agreed to take it on and ...

Sorry Ron, Bob, I'm afraid I am really busy right now and haven't really got any free time at the moment. I am however trying to see if I can get this sorted for the long term benefit of the club ongoing so can you give me a couple of weeks? Gary's right, it doesn't look like I'll be flying any time...

I bought an iPhone earlier on this year and have been mucking about with it's GPS for some time now (not for flying unfortunately - but I've discovered www.openstreetmap.org and have been contributing based on GPS traces of my bike rides into work). When I did fly a couple of years ago I used to use...

Sites Guide update
On the subject of the sites guide (not the other stuff): Colin: Sorry I didn't reply when you got in touch before. I was not aware of the flight notes not working I will get that fixed ASAP. The edit ability of people is driven by the forum permissions. There is a fairly complicated secure tunnel be...

Pushing Tin Feedback
So I was talking to a Newcastle Air Traffic Controller last night (as you do). Had an interesting conversation once we'd got past the obvious: Is it really as stressful as that movie - what's it called - Pushing Tin or something? Anyway, they had some interesting feedback on the transponder issue th...

Thanks Colin, I missed that one. The site elevation and grid reference are automatically calculated for you when you add a site... Except Horden was the first one and I created it manually before I had the auto stuff working. Cheers Ian, I've altered the safety section of Hogden to make the otterbur...

Online Sites Guide update
I've been spending some time on this over the last few weeks and made some progress. All of the sites in the paper version are now online along with transcribed words. Plus I've managed to get most of the map symbols loaded up for each site as well as fixing some bugs and missing basic functionality...

I planned on doing something fancy and interactive with wind direction which is why it didn't get added as a basic parameter. Sorry to all in the club at the way this has just stopped. Steve's right, I took on a big work commitment in February, that then went permanent, and this knocked all developm...

:sor: Sorry folks. As John says, I had a slow start to the year plus I went and spent a lot of money investing in the business in December which then came back to haunt me in January! Long story short, I had to get a job to pay the bills and am currently working 10 hours a day 6 days a week. On Satu...

Hi Brian, nope, it was actually something that happened to our forum server on thursday night I think. Looks like there was a problem with the forum and when it came back, the secure tunnel I use to access the user rights (to see if you are a club member etc.) got broke. Because I was depending on i...

For me it was the best flight I've ever had but then I've not got much experience to go with! Big thanks to John and John for convincing us to stick around when we thought it was blown out! The wind just dropped off at around 3pm to a background of around 10-12 mph. Launching was fine, never felt pi...

I was just looking at the NOTAM alerts for this weekend when I noticed one near the Long Mynde area. Starting tomorrow, if you're going XC and heading west north west and find yourself heading between Telford and Wolverhampton then look out for the V festival. There is a temporary restricted area up...

Online Site Guide Updated
I've just loaded up the main structure of the site information system - we now have some of our sites up on the web! :x I say some, because I was going pie eyed after the tenth addition of cutting and pasting from the paper based site guide. I'll get the rest in over the coming days. So far, the sec...

Online Site Guide - NOTAM Stuff
OK, the new online siteguide is now available for the first stage of information. This is the NOTAM stuff I showed in the last meeting. Right now this is all that is available. None of our site info is yet generally available as I'm still building the functionality and security stuff. But this will ...

Use the As n Cs method, you are then in control of the speed of the wing all the way up. Done That - best thing I ever learnt - although I use the Ds Go to the coast and fill a few cells with sand, that slows things down a bit! Done that. Fly in light winds I do that and sink. learn to bounce well!...

Re: Old Bewick on Sunday
Couldn't agree more Claire, we definately need to have an on-line sites guide!Claire Smith wrote:If my site assessment is correct and slope landing are not advisable could this be another benefit of having an online sites guide which would be easier to update and include recent feedback.
