Hi guys, great experience at Ratho too :D Trias was giving XC talk, and if you must miss a half - you should have missed the first one! Second half was much more practical. Now, who was spreading rumours that we HGs are head-first nutters? I had absolutely no buzz or adrenaline during this...

Great weekend flying for some - I hear a few flights over the border :) Yes, there's a couple quid "donation" expected from non-members which I didn't remind of to not spoil the camaraderie, but it would be nice - after all, the club is stuck with 500 per annum insurance after more than ha...

the writing in russian, action in Moscow. If you think THIS is blatant disregard for others lives - think again, im Moscow you can be killed by a black 4x4 going head-on on your side of the road, or - if you're a pedestrian - on a pedestrian crossing or a bus stop. And if that wasn't annoying enough...

Cheers Ronnie, will pass your message too! I think you may be right about the wide angle camera making hangpoint look higher than it really was. As for guerilla style flight - well, I didnt realize that the cord wasn't supposed to go through the carabiner until I was flying, and then I just had to m...

I voted Cheviots, just for that one flight off the "Secret site" - one of the best flights I have ever had in the UK

First soaring at Hogdon was impressive too - in those days !

Sure, I'll pass it on

On the other hand it may reduce their flare authority

Roll response felt just fine for me, whereas pitch pressure was incredibly light for a "beginner" glider

Not quite an iPhone, but: I've got an Android phone (aka google phone) and can develop apps for it. Mine is HTC Magic, got GPS, 3 axis accelerometer and magnetic sensor, and lots of other goodies. Other android phones seem to have GPS too. What would we like it to do? For starters, one could launch ...

So, forecast in Borders shows W turning WSW, weather being nicer in Northumbria for longer than up here in Scotland. More like all W in NHPC area and couding over a bit later. If it's got to be in Scotland, I'd suggest Broughton. Good 4x4s should make it to the top, but softroaders on road tires wil...

That was the situation a year ago. Except we couldn't get into marie coz it was shut.

School vans don't mind you sneaking in behind them ONLY WHEN YOU GOT GLIDERS ON THE CAR otherwise they get nasty just to let the barrier shut in front of you

The 500ft rule doesn't apply to a glider soaring a hill. Not too sure what the people living in the houses would say - he looked quite close!! :) It's arguable that he wasn't soaring a hill when he passed the houses as he was so low there wasn't really a hill at that point. I'd say he wasn't actual...

Re: Don't foget

Don't forget, hanggliders can take a hell of a lot more turbulance than a paraglider...strong thermals no problem on hanggliders even when only a couple of hundred feet above the ridge 8) +1 Ron, I previously thought it's only "positively soarable" breeze that decks PGs, but last Sunday a...

I don't think you can create a proper IGC file out of any KML. KML files essentially contain (X,Y,Z) points - they don't normally have time stamps for each point or a G-record (digital signature) However a KML file created by gpsdump might have all that information built in - I certainly have seen t...

Re: Sergey

Sergey, check out the horizion when Gary begins to flare.. Gary asked me to look at the video and give him my assessment. Cheers. Yyyyyesss there was a bit of bank angle, I agree. Camera isn't entirely level on the glider but once used to it I can see the bank before the flare. Just didn't t...

Wow! Get well soon Gary, expect to see you out flying this weekend! Shocked after watching the video - last 20secs of the flight looked like you're coming down too soon. Can't tell about the wings level because all hardware in the frame is only that bit of wire. I know what I would have done on the ...
