Harnesses
I agree with Ian The Vamp is not an ideal harness for someone getting into the sport. There are many good products out there, From the range I sell I would highly recommend looking at the Gradient Comet, and Ava Sport Tangra. However I take it you have bought this harness as I cannot believe there a...

Were there any PG's out. Myself and Mike Cav had a quick sortie to Ellerside eventually managed to break free from the site ridge but only flew back to our second retrieve vehicle (about 5km over the back).

Club Comp
As I said before the CSC is generally very laid back and I was very aware that Gordie was involved in your plans from an early stage last time. I also offered to assist. However looking at the thread this time I have not seen any notice to Gordie or other CSC members and therefore made my comment. I...

Club Comp
There is no rule saying you have to be a CSC member to fly CSC sites.though if many are planning to turn up it would be wise to let the sites officer know (Gordie North Lakes /Andy Plim for the south) Clough is likely to be a popular choice for many pilots tomorrow and therefore I would suggest tryi...

Notamming
The principal of using the notam system is sound, however as it is rarely my plan to be flying in the same location for the day I very rarely do it. In the lakes sites where I think it is strongly recommended to do it are: Whitestones, Langdales, Wrynose and Walla and where I think my xc's will cross...

where to go!
Looking at wind direction I would be thinking of Wrynose (an easy place to start) with a view of flying up to Keswick, For the low airtimers there are things one can do out front which provide interesting challenges yet keep people safe. Give me a shout if this is of interest and I will happily help...

Just back from my travels and thought I should join the NHPC, as it seems to be a very hospitable club with many characters, as well as having some interesting sites (If Ronnie is to be listened too). However on reading this thread I am now inclined to wait, as I do not want to be accused of being a...

slopes to fly
it is not a simple case to try and fly shallower slopes when the wind gets up cos there will be more of a horizontal componant which is not condusive to a good soar, it is better to go to the coast where the air is more laminar and find a small bump with a good vertical component. I have soared alon...

Ian, I would have to agree with what Ali is saying that being Low hangpoints tends to give the pilot more feedback than high ones. I am not wanting to diss one brand while being seen to promote another however I did find the likes of the impress harness (albeit comfortable) was less manoverable in t...

I agree with you John, and it may well come with a bit of time, there was a bit of resistance to this in the CSC - not to the principle but the fact that it can or could become a beast to manage. You guys seem to do OK but it is not without its problems.

As an interested outsider looking in, I do side with Ronnie in this situation, It seems ludicrous that the your club honours a particular member with an Honorary membership status, and then removes their rights to vote. Tinto may have been the place to go but with over a dozen pilots on the hill Only two got away, the rest had to sit an watch as the boys completed a great circuit.
Steve may have also have set a new speed record for his time round an FAI 25km Triangle.

Earliest recorded 100k scoring flight 19th March
I have just been reliably informed that my trip out of the lakes this week is the earliest recorded 100km scoring flight. It also happens to be the longest flight from the lakes beating the distance set last year.
End of the self- praising triumphalism.

A Grand day out
What a grand day - Got very low on a couple of occassions. The lessons yesterday for me were 1) You have not stopped flying till you are on the ground. 2) changing batteries on your GPS in the air is quite disconcerting to say the least. 3) Take more time to study my airmaps so that I am more famili...
Cloud flying!
Hi John I used the word 'safe' as a means to define the impossibility to bump into a hill, (unlike other sites over here) as immediatly over the back it is virtually flat land flying, for about 18km. As for cloud flying there is nothing illegal about flying to base which is forming below 3000ft. As ...
